Lately, I've been thinking about checking myself into rehab. (woof)

Nothing is going right for me. There is no way how I'm living can be considered healthy. But I guess that love isn't something that can be solved by rehabilitation; unless there's an AED that'll make my broken heart start beating again.

I can't say that anything has been making me happy. I don't have anyone to talk to that'll understand-- considering that now Luke and Ashton are stuck in their own little bubbles. Luke fawns over Ashton like a puppy.

Puppies always remind me of Calum. I could talk to Cal about anything. Even if he's never had a girlfriend, which is why I didn't approach him earlier.

I find myself wrapping my fuzzy kitten blanket around myself and trudging to the car, grabbing Daniel on the way, because I want the comfort of my stuffed lion. I set Daniel in the passenger seat, buckle him up, and drive away.

Familiar scenery flashes by, and the motions I go through to get me to Calum's house are automatic. I don't know what I would do without Cal. He's my best friend, I've known him forever. He's a bit sexual at times, and shy at others, but I'm glad that he's who I gravitated towards in first grade.

My blanket slips off my shoulder a little, dropping because of the awkward way I've been driving. Yesterday, when Luke and I were at the mall, I got the newest phone model. At a red light, I quickly use Siri to text Cal that I'm on my way over. (lol spoiler alert: there's no car accident in this fanfic, sorry)

As a heads up, I'm on my way over to your house

The familiar home gets closer and closer, until I park on the driveway. I can park on the driveway because I'm basically family. I pretty much have my own spot.

I quickly glance down at my phone to see if Cal read my message, or responded, but in faced with something strange.

We're sorry, but your message could not be delivered because the subscriber you are trying to reach is too far out of range. Pay $0.99 or $1.50 to message this subscriber.

What?! I'm not paying to text my best friend! How is he too far away? He's literally in the house in front of me! Stupid useless phone.

I quickly check over my body before getting out of the car. My hair is messy and faded, my face is unshaven and lined with tear stains, and my clothes rumpled. I grab Daniel and exit my car, stumbling over my feet to Cal's front door. I ring the bell twice, as per my usual ring. Joy answers the door.

"Oh? Michael! How are you!" she asks, not taking a second glance at my current apparel. "Oh, and hello, Daniel!" Joy always addresses Daniel too because of how I always made her when I was little. I smile at the memory.

"Hey Joy! I'm good, just came over to talk to Cal about everything that's been going on in our lives, you know? It's this girl that's driving me crazy..." I trail off, pausing at Joy's strange expression. It soon turns into a kind one.

"Oh, Michael! You must have forgotten that Calum's in Brazil! We all miss him very much, but he's doing good, working towards his dreams! I'm so proud!" Joy smiles kindly, patting me on the shoulder. "Oh, you know what, I just made cookies! Come, have one!" I follow Joy into the kitchen, beyond confused.

"You mean Calum isn't here?" I ask. Joy looks at me funny. "You said he was in Brazil? Why? What's he doing in Brazil? Are him and Mali on holiday?" I ask, griping the cookie she gives me in confusion. It's soft, and it crumbles in my hands. I quickly pick up the crumbs.

"Michael, didn't Calum tell you that he was going to train in Brazil? He's going to be a star Fifa player! His coaches are very very proud of his hard work and skills--did Calum face chat you to tell you that they want him to be on a professional team?!" Joy tells me, smiling broadly. The warm cookie becomes like cardboard in my mouth.

"Calum... Is in Brazil, to be a Fifa player? Is this a joke? My own best friend would tell me that he's going to train in another country, wouldn't he?" I say, and tears threaten to fall down my face yet another time. I clutch Daniel to my chest. Joy's face looks sympathetic.

"Michael--" she's cut off by Mali-Koa walking in, the door swinging closed behind her. She must be home from college. She takes one look at me and nods in understanding.

"Come 'ere, Mi," she says simply. I run to her, and fall into her arms in tears. "Thanks mom, I was waiting for him. We'll be up in my room." She pulls me up the stairs before Joy could protest.

"Thank you," I croak, sniffling when we get to her room.

"No problem, Mi. Now come tell Mama Mali about what's wrong," she coos. I promptly latch onto her, pulling her close to me so I can vent my feelings in a way like we used to. She's partially on top of me, but I don't feel her weight.

"Well, you see..." I start, crying into her hair.

I missed Mali. Now I miss Calum.

Why didn't he tell me he left?
