Tom and Irene lingered by the door and Tom kissed her cheek, "I promise you; it'll be alright." Irene immediately went upstairs to check on Jackie while Tom went to see where Caroline and Jack were.
"Hey, Mom. How are you feeling?"
"I'm feeling well. How was Miss Cinderella's first big Halloween?"
"It was wonderful. She traded candy with all of the other kids. I think it's been determined her favorite candy are the Reese's Peanut Butter Cups."
"She takes after her father then."
"Well, I'm exhausted so I think I'll head to bed."
Irene kissed Jackie on the cheek and then went into her room.
Over the next few days, Irene and Tom looked after Caroline while Jack and Bobby tied up loose ends with the election. Finally, the big day arrived. Irene had been over at the main house all day preparing a huge meal for all of the family with Rose. "Hey, Pops," Irene smiled as Joe came up behind her and kissed her cheek.
"What are my two favorite ladies making for dinner?"
         "Everything," Rose smiled.
That night everyone gathered at the main house except Jackie. The whole family sat in anticipation waiting for the results of the election. Tom and Jack sat next to Irene while she held Caroline on her lap. Late at night, a reporter came on with an official looking paper. "The winner of the 1960 election for the Presidency of the United States is Senator John Fitzgerald Kennedy from Boston, Massachusetts."
Irene and Jack jumped out of their seats, "Daddy! You did it!" Irene nearly shouted.
"I couldn't have done it without you, kiddo!" Jack said picking Irene up. She wrapped her legs around him and kissed him on the cheek. After he put her back on the floor, she turned and kissed Tom while Jack was congratulated by the rest of the family. Jack turned and shook Tom's hand, "Congratulations, Jack," Tom said.
"Thank you. We need to talk later."
        "Sure," Tom nodded.
The celebrations continued for a long time. Irene grew tired so she took Caroline home while Jack and Tom stayed awhile longer.
The next morning Irene helped Tom load up his car to leave, "Guess what? Your father asked me to be his Assistant Attorney General."
"No way! So that means that I won't have to leave my family once we're married."
"Nope. You'll be seeing a whole lot of them."
"Goodbye, Tom. I love you. Drive safe. Call when you get home."
"Hey, breathe. Everything will be fine. I will drive safe and I will call you. I love you too, sweetheart," he said wrapping his arms around her and pulling her in for a kiss.
