I woke up slowly, rising with the sun. I frowned, at first confused with why I was looking up at the night sky, but then I realized that I was in Polislam. Bravery was in the room next to me. I smiled at the thought.
I sat up, slowly stretching my sore muscles. Only now did I realize that yesterday and the day before had taken a toll on my body.
I forced my brain to pull myself out of the bed and I stood up and looked to the window. The sunrise was brightening up the ground below, and I could see that all of my soldiers were still asleep.
Pathetic! They would have to get used to getting up earlier. I smiled and walked towards the wardrobe and took off my shirt. I looked over at my left arm to see that the wrappings should be changed.
I shrugged, and regretted the decision. I should go see Bravery about my arm. I got up and went to my door and opened it quietly. The hinges were smooth and made no sound as I opened the door.
I turned to the left and went over to Bravery's door and rose my right hand to knock. Suddenly, I hesitated. Bravery was probably still asleep. I was pretty sure that I had heard somewhere that girls loved their beauty sleep.
That might have been Kinbridge. It was probably wrong if it had come from Kinbridge. I raised my arm to knock again to have the door pulled open and sudden I was staring into the greenest eyes.
"Um... what are you- WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO YOUR ARM?" Bravery shrieked and grabbed my good arm and pulled me inside. I followed willingly enough.
Bravery's room looked like the jungle, I realized. How fitting.
Bravery shoved me into a sitting position on the side of her bed. She ran over to her bag and took out her medical supply kit.
"What have you been doing? Playing tug of war with your left hand?" Bravery asked me and I smiled at her as she cut away the old wrappings.
"In my defense... The only physical activity I have gotten into was almost getting killed by you, and saving your life," I said and Bravery glared at me.
"And you suddenly remember now that you got mauled by a panther three days ago or so?" Bravery asked and I shrugged, then winced. Bravery punched my good arm.
"Stop that," Bravery stated and got out a clean cloth and went to her bathroom. When she came back, I realized that she was clean.
Every time that I had seen her before now she had been dirty. Her hair was smooth and her skin was as pale as new fallen snow.
"Why are you so pale?" I asked and Bravery glared at me.
"You are getting your arm patched up... and you are asking me why my skin color is the way it is?" Bravery asked me and I almost started to shrug but Bravery grabbed my shoulders and held them down.
"The drink I got from the prophet's made my skin pale," Bravery said with a shrug. I was jealous of that shrug.
"I thought that it made your eyes green?" I asked, confused, looking into Bravery's recapturing eyes. She turned to look at me and it seemed like we both got stuck.
"Why can't the drink do both?" Bravery asked, a smile Burlington her lips. I smiled and nodded to that. It made sense that the drink could do more than one thing.
"Is there anything else that the drink changed about you?" I asked her and Bravery frowned as she rubbed a lotion against my arm delicately. She was so gentle when she treated a wound that you could almost not feel it. I felt like she wasn't as delicate with herself.
"If the drink did change anything then I wouldn't know... It has been a while," Bravery said, sounding defensive towards the end.
"You are all cleaned up," Bravery said, finishing a wrapping that I hadn't known that she had started. I looked down at my clean arm and smiled.
"I really feel like you could be a medic in the war," I said and Bravery stood still and went towards her window.
"I-" Bravery said and I went over to her in confusion. She seemed to be struggling to breath.
"Are you okay?" I asked, putting a hand on her back. Bravery breathed in deeply and looked up at me in confusion.
"I can't be a medic," Bravery said and I shook my head with a smile.
"Of course you can! You'd be great at it!" I said and nudged her with my shoulder, then winced when I realized that it was my left shoulder. Bravery's eyes widened and she glared at me.
"Oh, of course it's MY fault that your arm hurts! Sure!" Bravery said and pushed me out of her room. She shoved me out her door and I turned around to have a witty comeback, but Bravery immediately slammed the door in my face.
I smiled a wistful smile and walked back to my room. I wondered what Kinbridge would have to say about that.
