Due to the blizzard raging outside, Hogwarts' Great Hall served as the auditorium for Ann's funeral. Every seat had been taken and people were lined along the walls to pay their respects to the late Anna Dumbledore-leBlanc and her daughter, Andromeda Elizabetha leBlanc. All manner of the press from all over the world were in attendance outside in the corridors. Cassie waited in silence in Dumbledore's office with Remus by her side. Lily, James and Sirius milled about the room as they waited for the ceremony to begin. Albus sat as his desk and watched with amusement, at his two young grandson's playing with Godric Gryffindor's sorting hat. He felt grateful that the sorting hat didn't seem to mind the twins roughhousing. Each of the boys donned the hat and he was happy to learn that the twins had been sorted into his former house of Gryffindor. He had hoped that Cassie would be as well.

Albus' brother Aberforth was also in attendance, sitting keeping a silent vigil over his brother's family as they silently mourned the loss of their beloved family member. Theo silently stood at a newly repaired stained glass window and watched the blizzard outside through a clear piece, his heart as fractured as the stained glass was after Albus broke it...

It was lucky happenstance that Minerva happened to be escorting two of her students who were remaining at the school during the holidays from the Great Hall back the Gryffindor common room when she heard a portrait call out for assistance in the Headmaster's office; as the Deputy Headmistress, she was privy to the passwords the Headmaster set daily and ran toward the spiral staircase with amazing speed. Albus had cleared the window of all the iron and glass and stood in the tall window, prepared to leap. She apparated to Albus, grabbed at him from behind and was refusing to release him.

"Albus, think of Elizabeth," she said gently. "She needs you now more than ever. Please don't do this to her." She thought that it felt like a millennia until someone else arrived to assist.

The two students ran to look for teachers--anyone would do, and Slughorn was the second to arrive and heard the Headmaster exclaim that his daughter was gone. The look on his face was one of confusion and he touched the corner of Minerva's robes and mouthed the word, "dead." When she confirmed his fears, his face fell into one of sorrow. Slughorn had been very fond of Ann, fond enough to have her as a member of the Slug Club. "Albus, Annie wouldn't have wanted this for you. Please come down."

Finally, Aberforth after having been sent for, stood at the office door, having apparated to the gates of the school grounds and run as fast as his aged body would let him. Breathing hard, he yelled at the top of his lungs, as he touched his wand to his throat, "ALBUS! YOU WOULD JOIN THE REST OF OUR FAMILY SO QUICKLY! YOU'VE GRANDCHILDREN TO THINK ABOUT!"

Minerva felt the rigidity of his body lessen and both were truly thankful that his brother had come so quickly.

"Do you really want your epitaph to read, 'Here lies Albus Dumbledore--who died because he was CHICKEN?"
