Cassie hired a car to travel to Hogsmede and invited her father along as he always enjoyed visiting the old castle...what he really wanted to do he said was to speak to his wife's portrait. Within two hours, they were at the edge of Hogsmede and parked the car along the side of the road. From there, Sirius transformed into Padfoot and they walked about one and a half miles to the edge of the village.
"You know, the first time your mother brought me here and I saw what no majes saw. Needless to say, I was terrified. Then she waved her wand at me and all of a sudden, I could see it—it was beautiful. I'll never forget that moment."
Cassie smiled, feeling the love her father was emanating. "Still didn't like magic though," she teased.
"I didn't understand it. But I've read the boy's textbooks and have learned that there really is certain logic to how it all works. I can't do it, but I understand it now."
"You know what I'd like to do?"
"What's that?"
"Take you to Diagon Alley. It's where the wizards shop. That place will blow your mind!"
"Actually, I've been there before. You mother took me when we were on our honeymoon."
"I didn't know that!"
"Yeah," he smiled. "Your grandpa was keeping you entertained. She took me on a walk about."
Cassie smiled warmly.
As they walked along the main street, she saw the side street coming up and saw that Padfoot was already walking ahead of them toward her great-uncle's bar and decided on a whim to follow him.
"Hey, where are we going?"
"I want to see if my great-uncle is in."
Padfoot pulled on the leash in the direction of the pub. "Okay Sirius! Abe would like to visit with you, I'm sure--please don't pull!"
Padfoot rolled his eyes and sighed, then relented and walked by her side toward the pub.
"Oh, I remember this place," he exclaimed as they approached Aberforth's pub. "What an odd guy. I don't think he knew what to make of me. Even at your Mom's funeral."
"Well, the story goes that he didn't have a good association with muggles. They were responsible for his little sister's death."
"Oh. I didn't know that."
"Yeah, Mom was named after her. I hope he wasn't rude to you," she said as she reached for the handle to the door and stopped abruptly. Padfoot pawed at the door.
"No, he was very cordial as I recall. He just didn't know how to behave, I guess?"
She nodded and turned the handle down and opened the door. "Abe? Are you in?"
"Of course I'm in. Where the hell else would I be?"
She entered and smiled warmly at her great uncle who returned her smile and held out his arms.
