Cassie had been living her life in a fog for nearly the entire twelve years that Sirius was incarcerated. She spoke to her Grandmother on several occasions about it and was advised to try and see him, even if it was only for a few minutes. Due to the fact that Sirius was considered their most dangerous prisoner, he was held in the very bowels of Azkaban Prison, having been placed in solitary confinement, he was allowed no visitors except with official Ministry permission and she had been denied six times. She could only imagine what he had gone through during that time, especially when she learned from Theo that there was nothing about "solitary" that was conducive to rehabilitating a prisoner. Still, in his absence, she tried to be the best mother to their children as she could be and relied heavily on assistance from family members and friends...namely Remus. Her band, now called Phoenix, had gained a world-wide following as a trio thanks to their management team which included Theo and his friend Geddy. She had managed to be a success in every way imaginable...still deep down inside, self-doubt plagued her; Cassie felt like as if she had failed in the one thing that was paramount...

She had failed Sirius.

August 1993

She was overjoyed when she realized that Sirius had escaped from the prison and set out to find him and find him she did...barely swimming the cold ocean currents north of Scotland as he tried like hell to make it to the shores of the mainland. Not knowing that hippogriffs are unable to swim well, she dove from high in the sky and attempted to pluck him from the water. She realized as she went beneath the surface of the ocean water, that she should have practiced being a hippogriff instead of just the transformation process. When she finally pulled herself and finally Padfoot free from the freezing waters, she flew low to the surface due to the harsh winds and knew that she had taken ocean water into her lungs...they were both drowning in the air as she flew unsteadily toward land, occasionally submerging Padfoot into the water by accident.

When she finally reached the shore, she released Padfoot from her sharp talons and he landed with a thud and yelped. She fell to earth and collided with the rocky sand and finally rolled to a stop. Padfoot raised his head and coughed up water as he looked over to the giant creature and then transformed in to Sirius and crawled over and winced, then fell over, holding his wrist and realized that it was broken. He had managed to crawl over to see if the hippogriff was still alive and inched over to her. He felt her chest for breathing, happy that while it was shallow, it was present. He looked for materials to conceal her and himself from guards and aurors on brooms who would certainly be looking for him.

Late April 1994

Cassie stood outside the shrieking shack knowing full well that this was where Sirius would take Peter once caught; she had dreamed about it for almost two weeks straight. All day, she hemmed and hawed at returning to the ancient school, but she also knew that Sirius was going to need all the help he could get.

There was a lonely-feeling kind of chill in the air even for the month of April and she pulled her sweater tighter around her in a vain attempt to block the cold wind blowing from the north. The castle was still a ways off and she knew that if she could apparate to it, she would be saving valuable time. She sighed and realized that transforming into her animagus form of the hippogriff Ebony was going to be the best course of action if she was truly going to accomplish her goal of finding Sirius before the authorities did...she could tell her Grandfather exactly what was happening, if he hadn't already figured it out, but she also knew that Sirius was out there somewhere and she didn't want him to see her in the event that he would forget his mission and think only of her...His safety was paramount and since she hadn't presented herself to him after he had escaped the prison, she decided against it.
