Chapter 6

The car was quite, eager tension lingered through the car. Even the dogs seemed to be getting tense.

"Can you grab me a water?" Felix asked, rubbing a hand over his face.

"Sure thing." Emma, unbuckled her seat belt, reached into the back seat and pulled her back pack up to her lap. She grabbed a bottle of water and two granola bars. "Want one?" She asked.

"Sure." He shrugged. "Set it in the extra cup holder."

As Emma munched on her granola bar she turned on the radio. Confusion crossed her. Static ran out the speakers. She changed the station again, and again, and again. All static, until she reached a news station. At first it talked in Italian then switched to English.

"All civilians MUST go to the nearest army and or military base. These bases are being set up all over Europe. Current, full functioning bases are sat up in large cites. Please-" The message was cute off, Felix stopped the car and a mumbled voice came through the speakers.

"DO NOT go to the bases. Their NOT safe!" A nervous man repeated in several languages.

"At least that guy knows what he's talking about." Felix muttered and turned off the radio. He continued down the road without another word.

Emma still was hazy with the details of everything and she was getting tired of not knowing what's going on. "Explain it all." She demanded.

"What?"

"Explain it to me. What the people in the gas station said, how you know Marzias in trouble by going to Gothenburg and why they came here. You seem like you know, so tell." She implored.

Felix sighed as he stared intently at the road, avoiding eye contact. "The people are bad, that's all you need to know. And I have no idea why they came all the way from Gothenburg to get people from here. Maybe they were hopping it wasn't here yet." He paused. "Happy?"

"No. What did they say?" She realized she was being an annoyance but her curiosity got the best of her.

Pewds face palmed and slowly slid hid hand down his face. "Fine. I'll tell you the jest of what they said. After they didn't want to kill us any more, or at lest it didn't sound like they didn't want to, the man said they should kill me and take you to their lab. They said you'd make a great test subject. And something about the groups happiness." He sighed. "Now are you satisfied?"

He still hadn't looked at her. When no answerer came, he looked at her. She looked, to say the least, confused. Her mind was going a million miles an hour, thinking of everything that could have and still could happen. And then there was the zombies to worry about. At least there weren't to many zombies. At least not yet. They've only had three bad encounters. But any amount was bad.

"Look, I would never, ever let that happen. No ones going to take you anywhere. You're with me and its staying that way...The bro army prevails!" Felix used an overly dramatic triumphant voice to get a smile. Emma slightly laughed and smiled some.

She held out her balled up fist, her skin white as snow."Bro fist?" She mumbled, sounding a bit childish. Given the fact she just turned 13, her child-ness was excusable.

Felix did the same with his fist, "Bro fist." He smiled and bumped her fist. His concentration soon went back to the road and his surroundings. Pewds keep a close eye out for any military-like vehicle. All he could see was the cannel a street over and busted in doors. There weren't even cars in the middle if the street anymore. They were all pushed aside. Felix looked at the scratches on the side of the car and imagined what the vehicle that done this may look like.

"Look out!" Emma yelled at the top of her lungs.

It was to late. Felix crashed into something then, as a result of trying to miss it he rammed into a parked car. Felix's head slammed forwards, his vision went red. He heard buzzing in his ears, drowning out all other noises. His vision went from red to black. A voice yelled his name over and over as he felt hands shaking his shoulders. He felt something warm flowing down his head. Then nothing.

"Marzia..." Was the only word he could manage.

"Pewdie!? Pewds?!..." Emma was shaking Felix's limp body from her seat. "Felix! Please wake up. Please. I need you. Marzia needs you. C-come on. Wake up...please." He didn't answer her, he didn't even move.

The two dogs jumped up in the front seat and licked Felix's head wound then they let out a whimper and they both curled up on his lap. They didn't have a scratch on them, lucky for them.

Emma was struck with panic. She had to get her head together. She thought back to the First Ad class she had taken the last month of school. "Okay I got this. First: clean the wound." She thought for a second, then pulled off her jacket, leaving her with only a black tank top. She pulled at a small rip in the sleeve of her jacket until the whole sleeve came off. A slam on the hood of the car distracted her for a moment. A zombie was stuck in between the two cars. A shiver was sent through Emma's spins then she put her attention back on Felix. His head wound didn't look to bad. The bleeding just needed to stop. Emma opened the middle console and pulled out some napkins. "Thank God." She muttered. After cleaning off the wound with her sleeve the bleeding seemed to stop, but to be sure she tilted his head back, lied some of the napkins on the wound then she ripped the rest of the sleeve off and tied it around his head so the napkins wouldn't move. "Okay, now what?" Emma asked herself. The dogs barked and wiggled there docked tails, jumping onto the dashboard.

After what seemed like forever Felix's eyes flickered open slightly. His head was pressed against the glass of the car window. Everything looked blurred to him. He tried to focus his vision but everything seemed to move. He tried to lift his head but pain poured over him. He let out a painful groan.

"Oh, thank God you woke up." Emma sighed, glancing over to Pewds then back to the road.

"You can drive?" He groggily questioned, once he realized the car was moving.

"Uh, yeah. Kinda got the hang of it an hour ago." She sounded a little doubtful in herself.

"An hour?!" Felix shot up only to get a terrible migraine. He groaned and Emma pushed him back in his seat with her arm.

"You need to take it easy."

"An hour? H-how long have I been out?" He leaned back and held his head. "What happened?"

"You've been out about 3 hours now...I think. I got some screen shots from google maps before the satellites or something crashed. And you have that head wound, the windshield is somewhat broken, and there's blood all over the front of the car because you crashed into a zombie...then a car." She explained. Felix looked confused, unsure of what to ask.

"...Are you okay?"

"Yeah, just a few scratches."

"Good."

"Your uh airbag didn't deploy." Emma informed him.

"I see that. Where'd yours go?" He stared at the hallow dash.

"I ripped it out after getting you into the passenger side, which was NOT easy." She said with a little triumphant giggle.

"We'll, thanks for the makeshift bandage." He smiled and prodded at her handy work.

"That's what 7th grade Health class is for."
