Chapter 21
POV: Emma
"Hey, can me and George walk around for a little bit?" I asked, pulling George up from where he was sitting.
"We should stay together." Felix stated.
"Ahw come on Felix! Please! we won't go far. I promise." I said and held out my pinky. "Pinky promise!"
He looked over at Fianna and she nodded in agreement. He smirked and wrapped his pinky around mine. "Pinky promise?" He asked.
"Cross my heart and hope to die." I did the crossing heart motion and held up my hand.
"Fine. But don't go out of my sight and don't separate from each other, okay?"
I nodded my head and grabbed George by the hand, dragging him along with me.
"Why don't you want to sit down with everyone?" George asked as we walked through the woods.
"I haven't had any time to myself since this whole thing started. Felix is like a magnet to me and I know he means well but I need my space."
"Then why'd you drag me with you?"
"Two reasons: 1. We need to talk about the grocery store incident. 2. Felix wouldn't let me go anywhere alone."
"Oh, yeah. What do you want to talk about with that thingy?"
I laughed a bit, as we walked farther back into the woods. "Nice. 'Thingy' that's what your gonna call the incident?"
"Incident? That sounds worse."
"Well, I mean I didn't not like it..." I trailed off and put my head down, looking up at him, looking for the reaction I want.
He blushed and looked speechless. "I-uh-I... you liked it...?"
"I-uh don't know. It wasn't really a 'real kiss' I guess."
We both stopped in our tracks and looked at each other. "Well, should we find out? I mean we-we've both kissed someone before, right?"
"Yeah... Totally." I think we were both lying but I wasn't saying anything. I know I was definitely lying.
We, awkwardly, moved closer to each other and leaned forward. Everything was kinda perfect, if you take out the whole zombie apocalypse thing. The snow was falling all around us, the trees were bare of leaves but had a layer of snow on all the branches. Everything around us was so beautiful and natural and I had only just noticed how far we were from the group but I didn't care. We'll walk back soon, I guess, right?
But of course, something had to happen. I heard footsteps coming from our right. My immediate reaction was to go to the ground. I pulled George down with me.
"What-?"
"Shhh!"
We both stayed silent as we army crawled to a large tree we both could hide behind.
I could barley see the tops of the peoples heads over the hills. They weren't very good at stealth though. Even with the thick blanket of snow, I could still hear their feet clomping around the woods.
"Can you see them?" George asked.
"Just the top of their heads."
At that he quickly, yet quietly, stood up, using the tree for cover. He started to peer around the tree. All I was thinking was, are you crazy!? "What are you doing!?" I shout-whispered, grabbing his arm and pulling him down, kneeling on one knee.
"Surveying. What if their survivors?"
"What if it's the government?"
"That's what I'm trying to find out." I let go of his arm and he stood back up. I searched his facial expressions for an answer. It didn't look good.
Confirmation to my thoughts came when I heard men cussing in Swedish. If I've learned one thing from Felix's videos, it's what Swedish cuss words are. "Soldiers!" George said, and pulled me to my feet. He was practically dragging me through the woods as I focused on the voices of the soldiers yelling at us to stop. I'm sick and tired of being in danger. People need to run from us not the other way around.
I stopped dead in my tracks and went behind a tree. I pushed George to the tree next to me and mouthed, "Get ready." I had some tricks up my sleeve. Well, more like in my backpack. "Snowballs, stall." I mouthed as I rummaged through my bag. Oh, Felix is going to be sooooo mad. Oh well. We're helping.
I pulled out some things from my backpack, long, thick white string, my pocket knife, my lighter, hairspray, an empty Pringles can, and my iPhone. I don't have a gun but they don't need to know that. I cut off a part of the Pringles can and went to my gun app on my phone. Then I put the phone in my homemade speakers and put it to full blast before selecting the AK 47.
Before "shooting" I checked for George. He was running around from tree to tree, throwing snowballs at the trees near the soldiers and even hitting them right in the face. They were completely disoriented. It was actually a bit funny.
I "shot" the gun and the soldiers pulled out a pistol. Me and George had to laugh. We were both making all this even better with his footsteps and snowballs and my gun fire that echoed excellently through the woods. The soldiers actually started to return fire and shot at trees, slight noises and shadows. I can't believe they did it until they were out of ammo. But of course they figured out it wasn't real and pulled out knives. They kinda even looked like the ones on Call of Duty.
One man shouted something in Swedish and the other laughed.
"Hey, what's your plan now?" George whispered from behind a near by tree.
"Take this." I tossed over part of the rope. "If they come this way you know what to do."
He nodded. "Toss me the hairspray and lighter."
"Why?"
"I have more experience with this kind of fire."
I wanted to ask more questions but there was no time to argue. I tossed it over and held on to the string.
George took a deep breath and so did I, before looking over to check on the soldiers. They were both coming this way and we both knew the trap would only work well if they were running.
"Aye! Ova' here!" George yelled.
The soldiers started to run to us and we pulled up the rope just in time. Both soldiers fell to the ground, their knives launching a few feet in front of them. They started to get up but George melted the snow in front of their hands with the makeshift flamethrower.
"Don't move!" He yelled. They definitely didn't move an inch. "Emma, go get everyone."
"I can't leave you alone with two trained soldiers!"
"If you don't then it won't help anyone. I know some Swedish anyways. I'll just scare them." He said with a short lived smile.
"Okay. I'll be right back. I promise."
I started to run back to were we started. My feet trudged in the thick snow as I took in freezing breaths of air. It stung like when I was having my asthma attack, minus the constriction of air.
I pushed past trees, branches and bushes until I was finally close. That's when I started yelling for Felix, Ryan, and Fianna. I was hoping they were still at least close to were we all started out.
Before I new it I ran into Felix's chest. I waddled back a bit as he grabbed my shoulders to steady me. "Are you okay?! Where were you where's George?! Are you okay?!" Felix bombarded me with questions as Ryan and Fianna ran to us.
"George as two Swedish soldiers at hairspray point... now that I think about it, knife point to." I took a quick puff of my inhaler.
"Wha-?"
"No time to explain! Come on!" I said and grabbed Felix by the arm.
