It was the day after my birthday. I was sixteen. Today was supposed to be my party, but I cancelled it last second. I never liked birthday parties. It had been raining all day. My dad came storming into the room from upstairs. "WHAT are you doing cancelling your party?" He yelled. "I didn't want one!" I yelled back. "Obviously you're way too spoiled. Do you have the ability to be grateful?" I furrowed my brow. "I am NOT spoiled! I'm grateful for everything and didn't want you to waste your money on a party that I won't even enjoy!" We were screaming now. Over something so little. "I already set up everything!I already 'wasted' my money on your whole party! Eight hundred down the drain! And that new car!" I pulled the keys out of my pocket and threw them at him. He bent over and caught them with both hands, looking at me inquisitively. "Take it back! I don't care! Save yourself some cash that way, DAD." I spit out the word and stomped out the door.
Pulling the hood of my jacket up, I hopped on my bike and pedaled down the driveway. Dad rushed out, and I could hear him talking to Derick on the phone. "...where she's going. She's really mad." I pedaled angrily down the road as fast as I could, the rain drenching me through my clothes. It had been about twenty minutes and I was still pedaling. I heard a car pulling up, but didn't look over. "GO away, Dad!" I yelled. A voice replied, but it wasn't my dad. "Come on Sandy, get in the car." That's my name. It was Derick and Shannon. "No, I'm done with my parent's crap! I'm done!" Tears poured down my face, but you couldn't tell with them mixing with rain. I stood from my seat and pedaled as fast as I could. I heard the car accelerate. I looked straight down to pedal faster, but knew exactly where I was going. I was headed up to a small intersection. Hardly anyone ever drove up there, especially in the rain. Roads were slick. They'd still have to stop at the intersection and I could make a bolt for it on my bike.
"Sandy," Shannon called. "Sandy STOP!" I heard the car accelerate but slow as we approached the intersection. "Watch where you're going!" Derick yelled. "CAR!" I gasped and looked up as I flipped my pedals back and pulled the brake with my hands. A white Camero came flying up the other road, honking wildly at me. My bike slid in the rain as I braked, pushing me up into the middle of the intersection. The car's tires moved to the side, but it only managed to make the car turn as it slid ever closer toward me. "SANDY!" Shannon screamed as the car slammed into my side and sent me flying into a stop sign.
I heard a snap and my breath fell away from me as my back cracked against the metal pole. I tried to scream, but nothing came out. I started fading, but managed to keep my conciousness. I heard Derick and shannon scream my name. My arm was outstretched, only inches away from my phone that had fallen out of my pocket. A man jumped out of the car. "Oh my God, Oh shit! I'm calling an ambulance right now, stay calm! You'll be okay..." My whole body shivered in the cold rain, making my back snap and bend even more. I started sobbing as Shannon and Derick ran to me. Shannon crouched next to me, screaming hysterically. "Sandy, you'll be okay, you'll be okay!" She grabbed my hand. I felt my insides burning, and blood gathered in my mouth. My heart was racing and my head was pounding.
Derick grabbed my head with his hands. "Baby, it's okay. You'll make it through and we can be together, and everything will be fine." I looked at the man as he hung up the phone. "Help is on the-" "SHUT THE HELL UP!" Derick screamed, his voice cracking and his eyes reddening with tears. "Shut the Hell up." he whispered this time, pulling his face to mine, and rocking back and forth. He dared not move me. He sat cross-legged by my face. "Please say something, Sandy!" Shannon cried. "I love you both so much." I managed to mumble. They both heard me. Shannon grabbed my hand and Derick just cried harder. The man stood at his car, staring with horror. I managed to point toward him. "Tell him I forgive him." Shannon nodded, biting her lip and sniffing. I had gone numb, and the violent shivering stopped even though the temperature had been doing nothing but drop.
Sirens filled the streets as the ambulance came closer and the flashing lights came into view. I heard my phone ring, and realized it was my mom. I picked it up with my barely working arm, studying her picture one last time. I moved my thumb to answer, but hung up last second. "Tell my family I love them. And tell my dad that I'm sorry." The ambulance parked in the middle of the street, and I reached up to the necklace Shannon had given me on my birthday. "Thank you." I smiled at both of them once more and looked at the sky. There was a gaping hole in the clouds. I could see the brightest stars I had ever witnessed. With one shuttery breath, I floated away. I could hear Derick and Shannon yelling frantically, but the trees and the ambulance all disappeared as I was lifted into the sky.
I was pronounced dead at the scene,
