I feel terrible, but I really don't remember much about my dad. He was tall. Spiky hair. I just can't seem to remember anything else. He was tall...I think. I just don't know. But there is one thing I remember. I feel like it's really useful. It's one of the most recent things I can remember.
The wind was flying through my hair. I was leaning out the side of my dad's Jeep. I always had a blast offroading in it. "Don't hit your head on a tree branch," he laughed. I can see his face. It looks like a blur, but he's got glasses. I waved at some kids walking down the sidewalk, friends from school, I assume. "I only want the best for my girl. Trust me, you'll love this!" I see the house. We pulled up to the driveway. I don't know where we had been, but I had packed bags and I was glad to be home.
Everyone rushed out onto the lawn, pulling me inside and whispering to eachother about how I was going to love my surprise. They all sat me down on the couch and ran off into the other room. My little cousin came toddling up to me. I can't remember anything about that conversation. From here, it's a lot of blank faces and empty mouth movement. I don't know what was happening. I walked into the kitchen where my mom was standing. She grabbed my arm. "Pull your hair back," she commanded. "What?" I asked, titlting my head to the side. "Just do it, (name!)" she scolded. I pulled my hair back as I was told and felt as something wrapped around my face. It was a blindfold.
My mother guided me to the porch using my shoulders, and I blindly stuck my arms straight out so I didn't run into a wall. She was never the best at guiding people to a gift. Anyway, she removed the blindfold. I opened my eyes and my hands shot up to my face. I sprinted over to the brand new car that sat in the driveway. I don't remember what color it was, but it gleamed in the sunlight. i ran my fingers lightly over the door and looked back at everyone who stood in the yard. Everyone seemed to be enjoying my reaction. "Go ahead, it's unlocked. Happy birthday," my dad said. He tossed me the keys and hopped into the passenger seat. "Put her in gear." He smiled. The engine roared to life. "I couldn't wait until your real birthday. I just had to let you take it for a spin!" I looked at my dad and started laughing. We drove down the road, and that's all I can remember.
By the way, he had freckles.
I also saw lights when whatever happened to me happened. Flashing lights. And I saw the sky.
