Amber was still sat in a daze on the deck when Dessa arrived. She had called her and without giving any information asked her to come over straight away. She looked up as her friend let herself in through the side gate to the garden.
"What is it? What happened?" Dessa asked, heading for her friend.
Amber shook her head in pure confusion and began to tell Dessa everything as she sat down beside her.
When she had finished, her friend's response left her unsatisfied.
"I just don't get it! I mean he actually asked you if you wanted to make it official, then he comes round here acting like everything's great and then all of a sudden ditches you!?"
Amber nodded sullenly. "I really don't know what I did wrong."
"Nothing!" Dessa snapped. "You did nothing wrong. He's just another jerk!"
The girls looked at each other both coming to the same conclusion. Amber voiced it.
"But he's not a jerk. At least, he didn't seem it. It was far too sudden for him to have planned this."
Dessa nodded in agreement. "He really did seem great last night. It's just so strange!"
"What am I going to do?" Amber asked her friend.
"I'm not sure. Hang on, let me think." She responded.
They sat in silence for a while both considering the situation. Amber could come to no conclusion of what to do. Every time she thought of something, she would then think of an obstacle or a reason why not. Finally Dessa spoke up.
"Okay. There are three options as I see it." Amber nodded to indicate she was listening. "Number One... You do nothing." Amber frowned, so Dessa continued. "It sounds harsh but you've only known him a few days. At this stage it won't be hard to get over."
Amber wasn't so sure. "What's number Two?" She asked.
"Well Number Two is to text or call him. It's not threatening and will give him the opportunity to explain... If he wants to."
"Hmmmm. Maybe." Amber looked thoughtful. "What would I say though? I'm not sure I could call him. It would have to be a text."
"Okay but wait a second because there is also Option Three." Dessa enthused. "Option Three is to go down to the arena and confront him."
Amber laughed out loud. "Yeah right! That is NOT going to happen!"
"Then text it is." Dessa concluded.
"But what? What can I say?" The anguish returned to Amber's face.
"Just ask him what happened!"
Amber reluctantly picked up her phone and began to type. When she had finished she looked at Dessa and took in a sharp breath, about to press the 'send' button.
"Wait!" Dessa stopped her. "What did you say?" Amber gave Dessa the phone and she read out the message...
"Are you ok? Did I do something wrong? A x"
Dessa frowned. "I guess it's okay. I mean what else can you say?"
"Maybe you're right though... Maybe I should just leave... Dessa!" Amber lunged at her friend to retrieve her phone but it was too late. Dessa had sent the message.
"Oops!" Dessa said with a smirk and gave the phone back to its owner.
Amber scowled at her friend but honestly, she was pleased she had taken the decision out of her hands. At least she had done something now. The ball was in Jay's court.
