Ayla
September 21st:
I am having the worst day. First I couldn't find my bag of bud, and I checked everywhere that I possibly could have been. So now it's lost, And Joel will be pissed about that. I'm trying to hide it from him. THEN I couldn't find my iPod anywhere, so no podcast on the drive in. UGH.
That's the text that I conveniently got from Amanda as soon as I walked into work this morning. She hides it from everyone so well, but her love for weed is a true one. And knowing her, the fact that she is missing her bag, most definitely ruins her day.
*That sucks. I'm sorry! But I know what will make you feel better... Happy hour dinner with me?
YES. Please! I need girl time!
*Yay! Okay, Carrabbas? Right after work? I'm also getting off at 4:30 today!
Perfect. I can't wait!
Awesome! Seeing the look on her face tonight when I tell her that she is going to be my office manager, will be priceless. Hopefully that will turn her day around, and cheer her up. 'Cause so far my day has been great.
*
"If that wasn't perfect timing," I said to Amanda, as we both stepped out of our cars.
"Yeah, I didn't even see you pull in!" She chirped. "By the way, I love those pants, are they new?"
"Thank you!" I responded, looking down at my cream and brown gridded trousers. "They are new actually."
"Well, I love them. And you look amazing in them, with those heels. Ugh. Jealous."
"Oh please. You look gorgeous," I retort as we walk through the parking lot to the entrance.
Luckily for us, we got there at the perfect time. Its Friday, and about five - all hell will soon break loose. We sit down at a booth in the bar section, and quickly look at the drink book. Our waiter wasted no time to take that order, and left us with our menus.
"God, I am so glad you asked to go out tonight," Amanda said, placing her hands on both sides of her head.
"Yeah. Explain how you lost the weed? Did you check under your bed, in your basement? I mean, it can't be lost?" I insist.
"I did look, but I'm going to check again when I get home. And I could have sworn the iPod was on my kitchen table, but no," she said disgruntled.
"You'll find it. Both of them. Don't stress. Besides, I have some news for you!" I clapped. "I need a manager for the birth center, and there's no one else I'd rather have than you. So I'm hoping that you will accept?"
Amanda's eyes grew wide.
"Me? Are you serious?"
"Absolutely. Hospital HR already knows that you're my choice. And obviously you know it's not permanent until next September. But please say yes."
"Um. Oh my God. Yes! YES! Ayla, holy shit!" She squealed.
"Great! I'm so excited, Amanda. We have so much work to do. The next year is going to be busy. You'll have to formally accept the position on Monday with Jack Thomas, you know, Dylan's dad - he's handling all of our business stuff. He offered and was glad to take control with this."
"This is excellent. You know how much I love being busy, and marketing and gah! This is so great!" She said as she reached across the table to hug me.
I hugged her tightly in return.
"I know, and girl we are gonna be busting our asses. At the end of October I have a meeting with the American Association of Birth Centers, and I want you there with me. It's in Pennsylvania. And we need to hire midwives, which we will talk about, and then designing the center. John and I have been working with that, and the layout is almost all done."
