Last time on In Love with a Killer:
He found her phone in her pocket and dialed 911, telling the operator about what just happened but leaving out the part about how he murdered the man. He gave them the address then hung up and cleaned his prints off the phone. Instead of sticking around to see how things played out he left out of the window and walked back to his home as if nothing had ever happened...
Chapter Seventeen: Disconnection
It was unusually warm for a day so close to winter. It was also rather lonely, the Pharaoh hadn't visited or sent a note for about three days now. I was worried to say the least, was he okay? Did he get caught? I don't often watch the news so I wouldn't know. I wasn't sure whether I should try going over his house or contacting this number Atemu gave me.
I heard the familiar chime of the game shop door and I immediately lit up. "Pharaoh?" I called out excitedly. I ran down the steps two at a time into the gameshop. I looked up and my face fell, it was only Téa.
"Hey Yugi!" she exclaimed happily, "How have you been?"
"Fine, I suppose. Is that all you came here for?" I walked back up the stairs and she promptly followed.
"Well, sort of. I was hoping to see why you've kept to yourself so much lately..." she said dejectedly as we walked into the kitchen.
"I'm fine. You don't need to treat me like a little kid, I can take care of myself," I said as I began to make myself some tea.
"Why are you so defensive?" she asked while placing a manicured hand on my shoulder.
"I'm not!" I exclaimed as I slapped her hand away. She gasped and took a step back, her mouth agape but I just looked away from her.
"Yugi, please," she insisted, "We're all very worried for you..."
"Who's we?" I asked, still not looking back at her.
"All of us, Joey, Tristan, Ryou, we're all seriously concerned about you," she took a step closer.
"Well tell them all I'm fine, they have nothing to worry about," I said while closing my eyes in frustration at her persistence.
"You don't seem fine, and what was that earlier? Who's 'Pharaoh'?" she tilted her head to the side.
"It's none of your business so just go home or something," I then completely turned my back to her.
"I'm not going anywhere until you tell me why we're acting this way," her normally cheerful expression became very serious.
"Like I said, it's none of your business," I was starting to get very irritated with her.
"As your friend Yugi, it is my business," she marched up to me and spun me around, forcing me to look up at her. I didn't know how much more of this pressure I could take. "This is about that serial killer, isn't it?" she asked with firm hands on my shoulders. 'She knows? But how? How could she possibly know?' my eyes widened as I stared at her blankly.
"I knew it, every since he first became big in the media you've been obsessed with trying to find him. You've been so wrapped up in trying to find the identity of this mystery man that you've forgotten about the consequences of locking everyone else out. That's why you've been acting so different lately, isn't it?" her sapphire eyes slightly softened but still had an edge to them. I gripped the counter as my heart started to pound and my breathing became erratic, my thoughts raced as I realized that my relationship with the Pharaoh would be cut very short if she kept poking her nose in my business.
She looked very concerned now and gripped my shoulders tighter, most likely in an attempt to calm me. I was far from calm though, I was... Frantic, for lack of better word choice of course. "You have to stop going after that guy, he's very bad news and he could hurt you! Nothing good will come from what you're trying to do," she was trying to tear me and Yami apart by convincing me he was a bad guy. 'How dare she?!' rage suddenly began to boil in my blood and my vision went hazy. The only thing on my mind was the intent on eliminating this pest in my life.
She cooed soothing words but they were drowned out by my distressed thoughts, my one true desire becoming clear. My body seemed to move on its own as I grabbed a nearby kitchen knife and seemingly out of nowhere plunged it deep into her chest, a look of total insanity shining in my eyes and making them a dark violet. With a gasp she fell to her knees before completely collapsing, dead on the kitchen floor. Flashbacks of my grandfather suddenly flashing through my mind and I barely caught and steadied myself on the counter.
My breathing was ragged and I could barely stand, but I felt... good. Adrenaline was pumping though my veins and a sadistic smile found its way to my lips. I looked down at myself and my crazed smile became wider, blood soaked my clothes and stained my hands. The uncontrollable laughter of a mad man tore from my throat, I didn't know what was so funny but I couldn't contain it. The laughter soon died down and I now looked upon the dead body of my ex-friend.
A pool of red liquid had grown around her and drenched her clothes, hair and skin. Her eyes were glassy and half-lidded, her lips were slightly parted. A question suddenly formed in my mind, 'What was I to do now?'
What happens now? What is Yugi going to do now? What exactly made Yugi snap and kill his friend? Will things only escalate from here?
