Angela Percy
Charm whined and I groaned. Monday's.I opened my eyes to see the fluffy puppy licking my face and sitting on my chest.
"Good morning pup." I pet his ears softly and he closed his eyes in content. "Time for work." I scooted to the edge of the bed and stood up, heading for the bathroom.
After brushing my teeth and taking a shower, I stepped out of the bathroom and grabbed my clothes.
I sat at the kitchen island, eating a sad bowl of corn flakes and scrolling through Facebook.
Apparently not much had changed since I left home.
My step sisters still smiled in their selfies and wore their over priced make up.
No one even seemed to notice I was gone.
I started going through my notifications only to be interrupted by a knock at the front door.
Who would be here this early in the morning? It's not even 7 am yet.
I walked to the door, peaking out of the window next to it.
Mesa. For a second I felt disappointment run through me, I was sort of hoping it was the golden eyed man from across the street.
But why would Lane come over anyway, he has better things to do.
I opened the door. "Hey Mesa, why are you here so early?" I asked looking into his bright blue eyes.
He smiled that cute puppy dog like smile. "I figured I might give you a ride to work. There was a bad storm last night in town and near the research center, figured you might have trouble driving in all this snow." He stuck his hands back into his pockets.
"Oh, thanks." I opened the door a little wider. "I just have to get my stuff together, come in."
Mesa stepped in and shut the door. He stood in the entry way as I gathered my laptop bag, my coat, and my coffee thermos.
"So..." Mesa shuffled on his feet, his hands stuffed into the pockets of his parka.
"How was your dinner with him?" Mesa mumbled. He looked like a sad little puppy. Well, not little, but it was cute. He was cute.
"It was..." I trailed off.
"Interesting."
I stood by Mesa's side, Charm on his leash next to me.
"Are we ready to go?" I smiled up at him and he watched me with his deep blue orbs.
"Yeah." He nodded and opened the door for me.
"Let me take him." Mesa took Charm's leash from my hand, little shivers ran up my arm at the brush of his finger tips on my palm.
I shook it off and turned back to the door, where I began locking up. The morning was quiet and unusually dark. The sun was barely peeking over the vast tundra.
The moon was still pretty high in the sky and I let my eyes wander to my favorite house in the world.
I looked into my bag, pulling out the book of poetry in it and remembered the touch of Lane's hands as he placed the book in mine.
