Your P.O.V
It's getting close to eleven o'clock at night and Cobra and I are sitting across from each other on the cave floor while simple white candles burn a vibrant orange color and illuminate the area along with a small stream of moonlight. This is the longest we've stayed up, but neither of us felt tired tonight, so we've just been talking pretty casually.
"Yeah, I know I'm not too interesting. My life has been boring before you six came around," I say.
"I only wish you could have an exciting future to look forward to," Cobra says almost sadly.
I take the time to examine his face in the perfect lighting of the room. He's honestly one of the most well-built man I've ever seen in my life and the way the candlelight reflects off his jawline... perfect. He's such a perfectly sculpted human being and I'm so glad he can't hear what I'm thinking right now. Although I would kill to see him smile, just once, I don't want it to be because he thinks I like him.
The question I've been dying to ask dances on my tongue and I know it has to be asked sometime. "Midnight said you guys were going to kill me. Is that true?" I keep my voice serious and watch as Cobra frowns and averts his gaze.
"I can't tell you," he whispers, then looks back up. "You're wanted by every dark guild in Fiore. We grabbed you so early because we didn't want them to get a chance to."
"But why? What could possibly be so important that everyone wants me now?" I plead.
"I'm sworn to secrecy. If I tell you, it will ruin everything. But what I can tell you is that we all had to wait until your eighteenth birthday which we know was about two months ago," Cobra replies, but I can tell he wants to tell me more.
"Sorano said she had no choice but to take part in this whole fiasco. Is it the same for you?"
Cobra let's out a surprisingly shaky breath and nods. "We owe our lives to Brain. He brought us here from..." he trails off.
I think for a moment. "The Tower of Heaven. You were there," I say in astonishment.
"Yeah, and it was hell. My family died because of a demon and Brain rescued us around nine years ago. We owe him a lot," Cobra whispers.
I bring my knees up to my chest and folds my arms over them to rest my chin on. "Did you ask him to rescue you?"
"No." Cobra raises an eyebrow at the question.
"Was he forced to?"
"I guess not."
"Then you owe him nothing," I say simply. "If someone does anything for you that you never asked them to do but it ends up benefiting you, you don't owe them anything because none of it was your idea. You didn't beg for him to take you away, he just did it. Not to mention that he only did it to use you guys."
It doesn't take a genius to realize what a user Brain is. It's so blatantly obvious that he only rescued them to create this atrocious dark guild. But I hate that I feel the slightest pinch of gratitude, because without him, Sorano and Cobra may still be in that horrifying place.
"We all know that, but we have nowhere else to go now. We started doing all these illegal activities years ago and that easily got us up on the Magic Council's wanted list."
I sigh and get a strong wave of comfort wash over me. My body moves on its own as I rise to my feet, walk over to where Cobra is and sit down next to him. I let my head rest against the wall of the cave and look over into his eyes.
"You always have somewhere to go. Don't think that you're ever confined to one place or to one person. You, especially you, can do anything you want. Sometimes, we find ourselves in the middle of nowhere, and other times, in the middle of nowhere, we find ourselves, because everywhere is somewhere."
Cobra looks at me with an expression that I can't quite place. His eyes are soft and his face is relaxed. "You're nothing like what I expected."
"I wish I could say the same, but I never expected to get, you know, kidnapped," I say, now realizing our faces are only a few inches a part.
Cobra smiles and I never thought he could get anymore good-looking than he already is. He has one of those smiles that could light up an entire room.
"You should smile more," I say without thinking.
"I only smile at the pain of my enemies," he replies, letting his smile fade.
"You can say that, but that's not true. I was in pain a couple of days ago and you didn't seem too happy."
"I don't see you as an enemy,
(Y/N)," he whispers, suddenly becoming serious again and a shiver runs up my spine as he my name caresses his lips.
"Then what do you see me as?" I question.
Cobra ponders for a moment. "I'm not sure, but enemy is definitely not on the list."
"Easy for you to say. I don't even know your real name and you know a bunch of random stuff about me," I point out.
He grins in response. "Erik. Erik Ozera."
Of course his name has to be as sexy as he is.
"If I knew it was that easy to get your name out of you, I would've asked a long time ago," I chuckle.
"I probably wouldn't have told you until today," Erik confesses.
"What changed?"
"I'm not sure," he says.
We both fall in to some type of deep thought but we continue to gaze in to each other's eyes. Before either of us know what's happening, we're both slowly leaning in, and it doesn't take long for our lips to get a sheet of paper a part because of how close we already are. Fireworks ignite between us as our lips brush against each other and my heart speeds up.
"When are you guys-" a voice echoes through the cave and Erik and I jump to our feet, creating immediate separation. "Wow, what is going on here?" Sorano asks with a knowing smirk.
"Nothing," Erik and I say in unison.
"Sure, sure," she replies. "Just get to bed soon." Sorano snickers as she turns and walks back into the cave where she came from.
I take a look over at Erik and we both awkwardly avoid direct eye-contact. I put up my wrists for him to chain together, but he just shakes his head.
"Are you going to try to escape?" he asks.
"No."
"Then I'll see you in the morning." Erik strides past me with his hands in his pockets and I blankly stare after him.
Yeah, this is bad.
I can't believe how much I misunderstood Erik. From the beginning, I thought all of them were arrogant and pompous jerks, but they have been through so much. They all believe they're stuck here in this terrible guild doing destructive things. I wonder if the other members of the Oracion Seis are the same.
So many people assume certain individuals are evil because of what they've done, but no one ever asks the reasons, they just see the crime. They could have a gun to their head, being forced to do something, and all the world would see is what they themselves have done because no one blames the reason they're evil.
We assume people should be strong enough to make their own decisions, but some of us haven't been able to learn that and all we are is weak on the inside. I'm so glad I decided to sit back and listen to Sorano and Erik tell me their stories because now I understand. They're simple, lost human beings that are just looking for peace, whether it's Sorano's sister or Erik's freedom.
I just hope and wish that whatever happens, they find what they need, even if I'm not around to see it.
A/N: Yeah, I made up a hot last name for Cobra/Erik which is Ozera. If you notice it, I stole it from Christian Ozera from Vampire Academy. No shame, I love that name.
