Three Days Later
You walk down a busy street with your hand intertwined in Cobra's. You both have sunglasses on and maintain a normal pace on the way to the docks to board the cruise ship that will be taking the two of you the rest of the way to Enca in two days time.
The city you're passing through is too busy to take notice of a young couple seemingly heading on vacation together, so this is a nice hint of normality. With all the recent traveling on foot, you're glad to be able to relax the rest of the way to the island.
Originally, you were going to sneak onto a cargo ship and make it the rest of the way, but when you found some information on a cruise ship that would be momentarily docking in Enca for a few hours leaving the next day, you decided to surprise Cobra with two tickets in your fake name.
At first, Cobra didn't find it to be such a good idea, but you convinced him to go along so you could have some time together on a luxurious ship. You had saved jewel in a bank account for many years, so the expenses weren't too bad.
"I'm excited," you say to your boyfriend.
"I have to admit that I am too. I've never done anything for the sole purpose of fun and relaxation before," Cobra admits.
"Well, I got us a premium experience package, meaning massages, buffets and a beautiful room."
"Where did you get the jewel for this? You know I have jewel from all the crimes I've committed, but you never told me you were loaded," he inquires.
"For starters, I worked a lot throughout my teenage years and put all my earnings into an account. Plus, that bitch, Zenia, paid me very well, so that's a bonus," you answer.
"Let's not get into that right now," Cobra slightly groans.
You silently agree and turn a corner to finally spot the ship in the distance. You see other couples, families and rich single people boarding with huge pieces of luggage.
You walk down the dock and up the ramp into the huge brown and red color schemed lobby with a huge chandelier hanging from the ceiling. You pull Cobra to stand in the short line to the front desk to confirm your tickets and sign in. You get to the front and the clerk is a tall man in a suit wearing a nametag with 'Philippe' written across it.
"Name?" he sighs boredly with a hint of a French accent.
"I have two tickets for a Vermilion," you say.
Philippe turns to the computer on the side of his desk and begins typing before responding. "Zera Vermilion, second floor, room number 7." Philippe reaches under the desk and hands you two cards. "Enjoy."
You take them with a false smile and you and Cobra walk off to the the elevator. You wait for the metal doors to open before stepping in. Cobra pulls you closer and you both swipe off your glasses, putting them in your bags.
The elevator dings and the doors open. You walk onto the carpeted floor and down the hallway until you see the door with your number shining on the front in silver lettering. You stick your card into the slot until the green light shows up, then you turn the knob and push the door open to reveal an open room with a small kitchen and couch with a television.
You stroll in with Cobra trailing. He closes and locks the door behind the two of you as you look around and see double doors to the left of the room. You grab both handles before throwing them open to unveil a huge bed with white sheets, a dresser and a large bathroom on the side.
You toss your bag on the floor before Cobra spins you around and hoists you up by your thighs. You let out a surprised squeal and wrap your legs around his waist before he rolls your bodies onto the mattress with you now straddling him and sitting up.
"What the-"
He cuts you off. "Shhh. Quiet time."
You roll your eyes and look down at his closed-eyed expression. He looks tired, you remark to yourself and begin running your hands up and down his chest soothingly. You notice his maroon hair seems to be growing longer, too, but you're not complaining. A sudden thought ticks in your head and your curiosity gets the better of you.
"Speaking of Zenia..." You trail momentarily as you see Cobra's eyes snap open. "She said you and Sorano watched me before the whole kidnapping thing. Is that true?"
Cobra sighs and rubs circles on your sides. "It started a week before your birthday. It was only three times a week to keep track on your whereabouts and I went once every two weeks for Sorano."
"That's creepy as hell, you know that? It makes it sound like I have Stockholm Syndrome," you reply.
"True," he agrees. "But it wasn't like I was doing a job or anything. It was kind of like silent admiration. I thought you were cute with your nose is a book, and I could always tell when you got to an exciting or shocking part because your eyes would widen and you would put a hand over your mouth to muffle the sound. It was the little things I began to love about you and I shouldn't have.
"You were sentenced to death by every dark guild and it was hard for me to know that. I basked in the moments where I could just watch you and listen like everything was fine. It's completely and utterly selfish of me to say that I deserve you because damnit, I'm the last person you should be with."
You study Cobra's eyes and detect the most sincerity you've ever seen, but you understand how he feels. This whole situation from the beginning was fucked up and even now it seems like a terrible decision to be with someone who stalked and freaking kidnapped you. You know, though, he had no real choice in the matter.
"By listen, you mean reading my mind, right? I don't think I could block it out until I wanted to that first night in the cave."
"I didn't read your mind. I didn't have a reason to nor did I want to. I felt like I was trespassing when I did it on instinct the first time I saw you and reclined immediately. The time in the cave, I just did it to show you what I could do. I was grateful when you blocked me out because I knew Brain would have me in your mind constantly," Cobra admits.
"I wish we could've met differently, maybe in a cafe or a library like normal people. But I can't say the whole experience of being held prisoner wasn't thrilling because, in a sadistic way, I found it fun. I don't know, perhaps having you there to tease made it worth it," you reply with a small smile.
"I hated it. All I wanted was to keep you safe, but I had to stick to the plan and be an asshole. Then I completely snapped when Midnight hurt you. I was so infuriated that he could do something so vile to someone so... amazing."
You slowly bring a hand up to cup his cheek and rub your thumb against his smooth, tan skin when you see his eyes become slightly watery.
"Let's not talk about it anymore. That's the past and it's not worth our attention when we're so very close to something new," you whisper.
Cobra puts his arms around you and drags you down next to him on the bed.
"I love you," he whispers as he tightens his hold.
"I love you, too."
