The Next Day
"Six more hours until we dock in Enca," you say excitedly as you sit across from Cobra in the dining hall.
"I have everything ready for our arrival, so I hope you like it," Cobra replies, cutting into his steak.
"What exactly do you have planned?"
"It's a surprise," he replies with a tiny smile.
"Really?" You let out a chuckle and continue eating your (F/F).
"Just wait until we get there and you'll understand."
You nod and finish your food as Cobra does too. You wipe your mouth on the napkin before standing up and waiting for Cobra to take the jewel from his pocket to leave on the table. After he does, he takes your hand in his and the two of you make your way out of the restaurant and proceed back to your room.
You swing your conjoined hands as you walk across the deck where a crystal clear pool resides with many passengers lounging about. You and Cobra stroll down a corridor and into your hallway. Waltzing down the narrow space, you get an uneasy feeling in the pit of your stomach.
When you get to your room, Cobra takes his key card from his pocket as you stand behing him, trying to ignore your instincts until you catch something in the corner of your eye.
"Erik," you whisper frantically. "Hurry."
Cobra looks at you over his shoulder in question before glancing at what you see. His eyes widen and he shoves open the door, quickly pulling you inside behind him and softly shutting and locking it.
"What the hell are they doing here? How did they find us?" you ask worriedly and begin pacing the room.
"I don't know. How do we even know we're the ones they're after? Maybe there's a theft on the ship or something," Cobra replies logically.
"The Magic Council are serious business. They wouldn't have Lahar and Doranbolt on a simple theft," you point out before rushing to the bedroom.
"What are you doing?" Cobra asks, following you.
"We are getting out of here. We have to jump ship."
Cobra stands in the doorway before processing your choices and silently agreeing. He starts packing his own stuff and you secure your bag onto your body as he does the same. You grab his hand and rush to the door to your room, quietly unlocking it before opening it and cautiously stepping into the hallway while looking both ways as if crossing the street.
Cobra shuts the door as you drag him toward the back of the boat where you're hoping no other guests or Magic Council Officers are posted. You maneuver through corridors before seeing an opening to a small part of the ship that you lead Cobra onto. You scan the waters and a sigh of relief escapes you when you spot a piece of land across the waves.
"I think that's the country of Sin. I wonder why we didn't dock there," Cobra says.
"I guess we'll find out soon," you reply as you both climb on top of the railing.
The wind dances through your hair and the ocean's fresh scent invades your nostrils. A flutter of nervousness sinks deep in your core but you push it away as you lock eyes with Cobra. You share a reassuring smile before kicking off the railing and plummeting into the blue water below with a huge splash.
You feel your body submerge in the water and your grip on Cobra's hand is lost. You hold your breath as you go under the salty water and kick your feet until you again reach the surface. You let oxygen fill your lungs and you look around for Cobra who surfaces not long after. You swim over to him and he sighs when he sees you.
"Let's go," he says.
You nod and the two of you begin swimming to the small piece of land that looks about five hundred feet away. You kick your feet and use your arms until you get to the shallow parts almost ten minutes later. Your muscles are tired, so you take a break by standing in the water that goes to your chest as Cobra does the same.
"What the hell are we going to do now?" you ask breathlessly as you both slowly walk to the shore.
"I don't know. We might have to be here until Cubellios gets back, then she can fly us the rest of the way," Cobra replies.
"We don't know how long we'll have to wait, though. That could be weeks or even months away," you point out as the water drops down to your ankles and your soaked feet drag through the sand.
Cobra grabs your hand and turns you toward him as you finally escape the water. "I told you we would get to Enca and we will somehow. I promise," he says.
You give him a small smile before looking at the long stretch of island in front of you, then something suddenly clicks.
"I read in a book that Sin is a highly populated country, so where is everyone?" you question as you scan the large deserted area where only grass and a few trees resides for miles.
"Maybe we got the location wrong. We might be on an undiscovered island," Cobra suggests while pushing his wet hair back.
"Something's not right," you mumble.
Cobra looks at you and protectively tugs you closer before a sudden voice breaks the silence of the land.
"You are so very right, Daiki."
You whip your head to the side and gape at the last group of people you thought you'd ever see.
