Abby's POV
After the conversation with Jarrett. John and I decided we were going to go and get my stuff Saturday, or in other words today. John and I did the chores this morning then got fed, amazingly might I add, by Mama Meyers and now Marcus is taking us to my house. I'm kind of scared on what's going to happen with my brother. Derek hasn't been himself lately, well the past two years; ever since Brianna Anderson dumped him, right out of high school.
Marcus drove into the drive way and both of them look at me, waiting until I'm ready. I nod and we all get out and walk over to the door. Marcus knows. It's the test to see of Derek is sober and awake. We sit there waiting for two minutes before I take out my key, my hands start shaking way to bad, so John takes the key out of my hand and opens the door. The glass has been picked up from my dad's melt down. If a stranger was to come in here, they wouldn't have known anything happened here, but I did. I still couldn't believe everything that had happened recently. I really want my older, overprotective brother back.
I couldn't stand there any longer so I ran up the stairs to my bedroom. Marcus came in and started helping me pack all my stuff. But John didn't. I wondered where he went, but just figured he'd eventually get here, so I just kept packing.
John's POV
When Abby and Marcus went into her room, I went into Derek's. I wanted to see if he was awake, or even here. I opened his door to see him laying in bed with headphones in and an asprin container on the night stand. He looked at me confused for a couple seconds before who I was clicked.
"John, hey, how is everything?" he asked, clearly confused on why I was there.
"Everything. Everything? Well, besides your dad beating your sister and she's now scared of everything in your house, damn good," came my answer.
"What? He did what now? How? When?" he asked, pain in his voice. He was sober, defiantly sober.
"About a week ago, the same day your mum left, we went out to the movies and when I dropped her off she went in side and apparently he started hitting and kicking her right away. She won't even tell me everything that he did to her, but I know he was trying to convince her she was the reason your mum left. She is devastated and wants her brother back." I watched his face the whole time, the more I explained the more pained it got. He still cared about her, a lot. I just hope he does something about it.
"He did that?"
"And more.." I answered. He stayed silent for a while. I could hear the stuff being moved around in the room over.
"How could she miss me? How could she still like me? I've been so messed up these past two years. I've done absolutely nothing and I feel like crap. My sister, my little sister, went through that and I didn't know about it," he said. " I gotta change that." He ran out of the room and into Abby's room. I slowly walked over there, and when I walked into the room I saw them hugging and tears streaming down both of their faces. I think and hope, for Abby's well being, that he gets better.
Abby's POV
Between Marcus and I, we have packed most of my stuff and John has disappeared to God knows where. I flop down on my bed right as the door gets ripped open and the one and only Derek runs in, completely sober. In a second I'm up, and we're hugging.
"I'm soooo soo sorry Abs," he says and I break down crying. My brother is sober right now and I can only hope he stays that way.
We stay like that for a couple minutes before I let go and run over to John, giving him a hug and thanking him. I really have no idea where I would be without my best friend.
"Thank you so much, Blue. For everything you have ever done for me!" A single tear drips down my face and John wipes it away with his thumb.
"Your welcome. Now go talk with your brother," he says, kissing my forehead and let's me go, slightly pushing me. I walk over to Derek and smile.
"I'm so sorry for not being there for you these past couple years. I guess I never really thought about how everybody else would be affected. I'm so sorry. I promise to try and stop. But I need your help. I'm just glad I didn't miss your biggest year, Senior year. But please, help me." When he finished his little speech and I had tears running down my face with a big grin to match. I nodded "Now tell me, are you and John dating yet?"
"No!" I practically shouted, making John and Marcus run into the room to see what's going on. Weird, I didn't even notice they left..
"Everything okay in here?" Marcus asked.
"Fine!" I answered, probably a little to quickly. I looked over at John, he had a mask of concern on his face and I knew I was gonna get asked about this later. I really wish he was protective over me cause he liked me, not cause he saw me as a little sister. Man, I need to stop with these thoughts, they aren't going to get me anywhere. John doesn't like me and never will. I apparently spaced out because the next thing I knew John was picking me up bridal style. I felt my checks go aflame. I didn't protest and just sighed, wrapping my arms around his neck. I was tired and he knew it.
"Go to sleep, I'm carry you up to our room once we get back."
"Otay," I replied, "thanks." I kissed his check. Both Marcus and Derek got in the front of the car and John pulled us into the back, as soon as Marcus was out of the drive way, I was out like a light.
