Abby's POV

John and I fell asleep on Derek's bed. John hasn't let go of me since I told him I was leaving. He's so cute and I can't believe it actually took me this long of being friends with him to figure it out. Waking up like this with him is amazing. To wake up and be in the arms of the one you love.. That's the best way to wake up.. Wait, did I just say love? I did. Hum. I don't exactly know what love is. But I think I'm coming pretty dang close to it with John.

I love cuddling with John, but I just remembered a promise I made to Jarrett that I haven't fulfilled yet.

I try to get up but as I do John's arm tightens around my waist, pulling me back into him. I look at him to find out he's still asleep. I smile and cuddle back into him for a while. After a couple minutes, I try to get back up again, with the same result.

"Ugh, John I needa get up!" I say, slightly annoyed, but more so delighted that even in his sleep he doesn't want me to go anywhere.

"You aren't going anywhere, anytime soon," John mumbles, finally waking up.

"First of all, we are on Derek's bed. I can't believe he didn't wake us up to move actually. Also, he's probably gonna think bad things about us being in the same bed. Second of all, I need to do something."

"First of all, I don't care what Derek thinks, I just wanna be here with you right now. And plus, we've slept in the same bed many, many times. Second of all, I won't let you go unless I find it important enough." I sighed, loving that he just wanted to be with me.

"First of all, he doesn't know that, and if he's anything like what he was before he started drinking, if he sees us, it won't be good. Second of all, I have to fulfill a promise I made to Jarrett," I smiled, knowing he had a soft spot for his younger brother.

"You're mine now, I don't care what your brother thinks about us. Well kinda. You know what I mean,"he nervously laughs. "But fine, I'll let you go," he mumbled, slowly letting me go. I jump up, kiss his check, squeaking out a thank you before I bolt up the stairs to Jarrett's room.

I knock on the door and hear him shuffle to get out of bed. I look take out my phone to notice it's only 7 o'clock, too early for him to be up.

"Jarrett!" I smile.

"Abby, it's only 7 in the morning, what do you want?" I smirk at his little ten year old attitude.

"Do you remember that promise I made to you before I got hurt?"

"Obviously I do." His smile grows as he realizes what I'm talking about.

"Well today's the day that that's going to happen!" I smile.

"Really?" He asks.

"Yupp! I'm gonna go tell Mama Meyers and you get ready." He smiles and tackles me in one of his big 10-year-old bear hugs.

"Thanks Abby!"

"No problem bud, now go!" I let go of him and walk down the stairs, finding Kevin in the kitchen. "Hey Kevin!"

"Hey Honey Bunches of Oats! What's up?"

"I was wondering if I could take Jarrett riding today?"

"Its fine with me, but its also Sunday, so you gotta ask Mama Meyers if you can skip church." I thank him and go to find Mama Meyers. I look all over and can't find her so I just go and find Jarrett. Before I do that I find John running down the stairs.

"Why aren't you dressed for church?" He asked with this cute little confused expression on his face.

"I'm going riding with Jarrett today!" I almost yell. I'm so excited to finally get back riding, I haven't been riding in a really long time!

"Have fun and be careful! No getting hurt!" He smirks, and comes closer, kissing me. When he steps back, I notice just how nice he looks in black pants and tie. I got caught up looking at him I didn't notice Jarrett coming down the stairs until he jumps on my back.

"Woah buddy! Ready?" I smile.

"Be careful you two!" John comes over and kisses me, smiling.

"Let's go little buddy!" I say, smiling at John and putting Jarrett down. As soon as I set him down he took off running, pulling me behind him. Now, I'm a pretty small girl with a fair amount of muscle from playing sports and all. He's a ten year old that's still a head shorter than me. It's not that surprising that I'm somewhat stopping him.

"Come on Abby!! We needa go!" I only laugh, and start to resist more. "Hurry up Abby!" I laugh and start fast walking to keep up with him.

Once we get to the barn I take out Star for Jarrett, he has to ride John's horse because he isn't old enough yet to have his own. The Meyer's always get a horse on their eleventh birthday. When John went to go get his, he fell in love with Star, and then they told him that it was a package deal and so the Meyers being the amazing people that they are, got Starlight for me. It was the best birthday present ever.

As soon as both the horses are ready, we head off.

***

It takes us four hours before we're heading back to the house; we stopped at the river and swam for a quite bit. Once we got the horses all cleaned up, we decided to go and get some lunch. Now, normally we all stay at Church until at least 1 because we help out with the lunch afterwards. So, being home at this time on a Sunday is really weird. We normally get back at 1:30-2 and it's only noon.

I walk into the kitchen talking with Jarrett. When I look up, Derek, John and Mama Meyers are sitting at the table. Jarrett and I instantly stop.

"What's going on?" I ask quietly. No one answered for a while and I felt awkward, and I could tell Jarrett did too because he started fidgeting.

"We got a message from your mom when we were at church..." John trails off.

"And??" I question. Looking over at Derek.

"Abby, Mom's coming back." Derek's face was completely blank and he looked away from me when he said that. They weren't telling me everything.

"And that's it?" I question again.

"Not exactly.." John trails off again.

"John, if you don't tell me what's going on, I swear I'm going to hurt you."

"Abby, now calm down," Mama Meyers said. "Your mom told me some serious stuff on this phone call and I want you to be ready for what we're going to tell you."

'"Okay... I can take it."

"Okayyy........" Mama Meyers trails on.

"Geez, Abby, our mom is dying. She's coming to say goodbye to us."
