From the first moment that Halt accepted Will as his apprentice, he was scared Will and Gilan would not like each other. They were both his apprentices, so he was scared that they would feel as if it was a competion.
But as we all know, it wasn't. Will and Gilan did like each other and become good friends.
But still, Halt was slightly scared something in their relationship would change. His relationship with Will was different from his with Gilan's, because he felt like a dad for Will, and a mentor for Gilan. But even this didn't change anything. Gilan knew about it, knew why, and didn't have any problems with it.
They lived happily ever after ;D
