Chapter 14

Working out at the gym they have at this big ass school is fucking hell. Danny keeps giving me all these heavy weights and making us run laps, he's also making me do flips and shit in the Trampoline Area! (Though it DOES remind me of an indoor trampoline place) I can't do flips for my life - thank GOD he's letting me take breaks! That man is crazy when it comes to the gym! I mean, he's six feet tall and five inches who's all muscles, I was kinda expecting it. Did you know that he can lift like 950 pounds?! He can freakin' lift me, Catherine, and Nina with one hand - alright, maybe I'm exaggerating. Anyways, earlier we were both jumping around the trampoline squares and he told me about himself during the process.

Danny told me that his family are from Greece and he grew up there until Catherine was born. I'm surprised English was his first language though. His family used to go to the beach everyday during the Summer; Dan's bummed out he can't go this year because of the damn war. "It sucks really, I'm also a favorite of mom's. If I'm even two feet away from her, she starts to panic and think I'm not secured." Danny chuckles and starts to jump over to the exit. "Aren't you coming?"

I perked up and nodded while jumping over to him. I tripped and fell on my face once I jumped off the last squared trampoline. "Augh! Dammit!!" I groaned against the soft, carpet floor. "H-Hey! Get up! If you're all scratched up, Louis will kill me!" I slowly pushed myself up and looked at Dan. "Am I uglier than I look?" I asked twitching my nose like a bunny. "Oh good, just a little rug burn on your nose! Are you clumsy or what, Eudie?" He chuckles again and pulls me up by the back of my shirt gingerly. "Your knees got a beating too but you'll be alright! It's gonna heal before you go to bed." His smile is pretty damn contagious so I smiled back. "Yeah, they better. I'm coming back here after breakfast to get tortured-"

"Hey!" Dan pouted teasingly while we both laughed. His sister, Catherine started walking over to us with crossed arms. "What's up, Cathy?" Dan starts petting her head lovingly and Catherine smacks his hand away and blushed lightly. "You left me with the cat!" She complained while Dan rolled his eyes, crossing his arms with her. "Is she THAT uncomfortable to be around, Cate?" Catherine nods her head rapidly. "Nina just coughed up a damn hairball, Danny! That's gross!" She cringed just thinking back at the hairball and its nastiness. "Hey, you're studying to be a nurse and being a nurse here is practice and a challenge for you. Maybe Nina's hairball is the beginning! Who knows?!" Danneth shrugs at Cathy and she scoffs. "A nurse...?" I tilted my head and looked at both of them while putting my hands on my hips as usual. "Yeah, my sister is our medical nurse! She's gonna be at the medical center with the other nurses, but she's our main nurse. If we're hurt or injured, she's gonna be there. That's what medical aid is." Danneth explained to me as he walked over to his little sister and petting her head. "Yeah. Be thankful, kid." She said bluntly at me.

"Who the fuck are you calling a kid, dumbass?" I solemnly asked while looking at Catherine dead in the eyes. "You. You ARE the kid in this army aren't you?" She walked towards me and looked up at me since she was a short thing. "Yeah. What's your point, small stuff?" I looked down at her and leaned towards her. "Young people aren't so strong and not so useful...I'm curious about why Mrs. Universia chose you specifically." She shrugs and looks at Dan. "Aren't you curious too, Danny?!" Catherine looked at her brother and he shrugs as well. "I mean she has potential and seeing her in the gym, she's pretty strong and likes a challenge."

"Damn straight! I never give up on anything, that's just how I am. What? Is my age concerning?"

"A little, but your strength and endurance explains why Mistress chose you." Danny responds. "I see. I'm even more curious about all this..." I said aloud to myself. Danny walked over to me and put his hand on my shoulder with a look of concern. "What's going on? Are you uncomfortable here?" I look up to Dan and I shook my head then started playing around with my strands of hair on popping out of my head. "It's not that, it's just that everything is just so...mysterious and odd. What's the reason this war is happening? Why is it odd that I'm chosen at fourteen? And why THE HELL ARE YOU SO TALL?!" I then look up to Dan with my nostrils flared and brows furrowed. Dan puts strands of his hair behind his left ear and exhales lightly. "Well, my mom's side of the family have big guys and they're from six feet to six foot four. I'm kinda...the tallest." Danny rubbed the back of his neck while blushing lightly. "Well, that explains everything. I also wanna know more about your big mouthed sister." I added while I looked at Catherine. "HEY!" She yelled at me and stomped her right foot and pouted. "C'mon Eudie, she's sensitive." Dan chuckled and I rolled my eyes. "Caem ayn dudie sheed denstuhten. Pfft." I said under my breath moving my hand.

Nina walked over to the three of us and was panting and had her hands to her knees. "Cardio...is now...my mortal enemy." She growled and then sat down on the floor and played with her ponytail. "I hate ponytails...I hate this plaaace!! Dan likes making the innocent suffer!" She whined adorably and curled up on the floor. "Awe, I'm sorry Nina. This is gonna help you in battle; trust me, you guys are going to thank me later!" Dan kneels down to Nina to pet her head with care. She purrs while Catherine was crossing her arms, giving me a long look. Danneth checked the time on his watch and perks up. "Damn, it's ten minutes until breakfast! I heard the food here is pretty good! Let's get dressed, shall we?" He said standing up with a smile on his face and two hands on his hips. "Yeah, I could use some fucking food..." I mumbled as I look up to Dan. "Let's go tidy up in the locker room!" Danny got his towel and walked back to the locker room while Catherine waited for Nina and I to get settled. "I'll be waiting for you guys here." She sat on a little bench near the locker room and looked at us. "Okay!" Nina ran in happily while I looked at Cate.

"I got my eye on you, Penny."

"I got MY eye on YOU, Brito." Cathy squinted her eyes at me. "There's something about you, Eudie...I'm gonna find out." She said while crossing her arms with a smirk.

"'Aye guht mai eh ehn yew.' Yeah, whatever you little brat." I walked into the locker room and exhaled heavily. What was she talking about?! Why DID Universia choose me? What the hell is going on?! I need to find out before Summer ends; I bet everyone will find out sooner or later anyway.
