Addison's POV

December 10, 2012

"Guys, thanks for coming, I really appreciate it!" I exclaimed to my closest friends who were all sitting in front of me. Today is my going-away party, and to be honest, even though I've only been here for two and a half years, I am really going to miss Malaysia. I've met some of the best friends I'll ever have, and now I have to leave them and head back to Singapore, which was where my family and I were relocated to nearly seven years ago. Singapore was the probably the best six years of my life, but these two years in Malaysia have topped it off. I used to think my friends in Singapore were it for me, but after meeting Sarah, Rachel and Yenni, I realized that these girls would be my friends forever...if we tried hard enough to stay in touch.

Sarah had recently moved schools, and it was personally hard for me in school because we were closer, while Rachel and Yenni were closer. After about two months into the first semester of our junior year of high school, my dad found out that it was time to move back to Singapore, where I'll be finishing off junior year and senior year. Really, the only reason why we're in Malaysia was so that Dad could fix up the company branch here with a time limit, per say, of two years. Now those two years are up. It was time to move on.

I'm slightly glad that my parents and I would only be back in Singapore just for another two years-actually, scratch that, I would only be in Singapore for a year and a half as I'd be heading off to a college that is most likely not in Asia. Sarah, Rachel, Yenni and I have this silly "dream" of going to college together in the UK, since it's outside of Asia and it's definitely a new scene for all of us. My parents and I visited Europe last year on a tour and I fell in love, especially with London. Though I was only there for three days, I was like "This is the place I've been dreaming of." Plus, people there have really interesting accents. If you think about it, how did it become that way? That was the thing about me-I'm very interested with history and the origins of a civilization, which probably explains my minor obsession with how the British evolved to speak the way they do.

Or maybe I'm just weird.

My girls and I have only a year and a half left of high school, and we were really going to have to coordinate the best we can if we want to go to college together. Just thinking about it makes me want to cry-what if it doesn't work, or what if it does work and we get sucked into some crazy shit in the UK? My mind was going crazy, but it's never too early to think about these types of things.

"Promise me that we'll always stay in touch, no matter what?" I asked the girls and they all gave me sad smiles. I grinned and looked down as the tears were threatening to fall. I realized I only had another week here in Malaysia, then I was back in my old school for the remainder of junior year...then it's senior year. Then college.

"Guys...I really want to go to college with you!" Rachel whispered and I looked up to see tears falling from her eyes. I got up from my seat and stood behind my three best friends and gave them a hug from behind. They instantly wrapped an arm around mine and we stayed that way for a good five minutes.

"Come on, that's still a bit well away. For now, let's have some bonding time and fun, yeah?" I said as I clapped my hands once together. Rachel and Yenni jumped into the pool and fooled around and had a conversation of their own.

"I see you still have that British intonation to you," Sarah winked. Sarah is Malaysian, just like Rachel and Yenni, though Rachel's family is originally from Singapore. As for me, I hail from The Philippines, but after living outside of my home country for more than half of my life now, I am completely "white washed," as my friends would say it. I have quite the American accent that my family back home teases me about since I can't say Filipino words correctly. I laughed at the memories.
