Chapter 24
Addison’s POV
(Back to present time)
I woke up with a smile on my face. Excited about my collaboration with JacksGap, I instantly logged into YouTube to see if they’ve posted it, and they have. I watched the entire thing, quietly laughing to myself…and admiring Finn. I shook my head, hoping it would clear all the thoughts I had about us being together. Even I creeped myself out.
I also saw that my follower count went up by about 900 and I couldn't help but squeel out loud.
After signing out I went ahead to see if Sarah was up, and judging from the utter silence of the apartment, I found the answer to my own question. I spotted the note she left on the fridge telling me she had gone out to see Jay for lunch and even sent the same message through text message.
Lunch? In that instant I checked the time and saw it was already 11:30 am. I nearly fussed over sleeping in, but then realized I had nothing important to do. Walking back to my room I replied back to Sarah saying I read her message and that I’ll just be at home, lazing around. She almost immediately replied.
“Wanna hang out with Jay and me?” She said and I shook my head.
“Um, I think I’ll pass for today…” I answered.
“But you haven’t seen Jay in so long! He isn’t Nathan, you know :P” She retorted and I began to feel guilty. I bitterly realized that I haven’t just been blocking Nathan out of my life, but also the rest of the boys who have done nothing but be great friends to me.
“Maybe you can bring him back here for dinner? I can go out and get some before you 2 come home…” I suggested.
“Sounds good! See ya laterrr” She sent back and I stopped replying to her from there.
For the mean time, I might as well make use of my time by sorting out the apartment for a while…maybe do some course work…do a YouTube video. Whatver happens, happens.
As I was about to pick up and dust a little ceramic rabbit statue on a shelf, I heard my phone beep. I took a glance and saw it was from none other than Finn Harries. I smiled to myself slightly. Maybe things will go right this time.
“How’d you like the video? I’m sure you’ve already seen it ;)” He wrote and I chuckled.
“What makes you think that? :)” I skillfully replied with one hand, quickly wiping off the rabbit and putting it back in its place.
“Fine. Go watch it now then.” He pressed and I rolled my eyes, despite the fact he wouldn’t be able to see it.
“I’m joking…I have seen it. It was practically the first thing I did this morning after waking up :P” I hit send and waited a good five minutes for his reply. Yeah, I smell desperation, Addison.
“I thought soooooo…” Finn wrote, and I had one word swimming in my head: “cheeky.”
I fought the urge to reply since I was in the middle of cleaning but not too long after his text, I heard my phone sound again.
“Would you like to hang out today? x” It read. I think I blushed.
“Err, I’m not sure. My best friend is out for lunch with her boyfriend and they’re coming back for dinner. I’m kinda making use of my day by cleaning the place up a bit” I explained, contemplating if I should’ve put an “x” at the end. Though I didn’t put it there, I felt like such a rude person for not doing so.
“How bout I just visit you? x” I didn’t realize how persistent Finn could be…note the sarcasm. I sighed in defeat.
“Sure why not x” As if on instinct I put the little “x” at the end of my message and hit send. This conversation has already become a chic flick.
Finn’s next message was basically a squeal of delight along with asking for directions to the apartment. Realizing I haven’t taken a shower, I practically sprinted into the bathroom and did my usual routine, sliding on a pair of jeans and a comfy long-sleeved, peplum shirt afterwards. Literally, as soon as I finished fixing my hair, the doorbell rang.
But it wasn’t Finn. It was Nathan.
***
I actually felt my smile drop.
Nathan looked at me expectantly, gauging my reaction. How could he do this to me and just show up out of the blue?
“Hi Addi,” his voice was soft. I didn’t say anything, and instead I took in his appearance. He looked fine for someone who had just gotten out of a relationship, but then again, it was all smoke and mirrors on his end.
“Nathan,” I simply said. It was generally against my nature to be…mean, so I pushed the door wider to let him in. He looked surprised and before I closed it, our neighbor, Mrs. Cole raised her eyebrows at me. She was in her 60’s and had a lot to say about the current generation.
She clutched her bag of groceries and approached me. “That boy was begging me to get up here, so he came along with me.” She smiled before continuing, “He must really love you.” Mrs. Cole winked and entered her apartment, leaving me slightly confused.
I finally shut the door and turned around to see Nathan standing there and staring at me. I don’t think he moved since entering through the door.
“Why are you here?” I asked him, not giving him eye contact. He walked closer to me and my breath hitched.
“Isn’t it obvious that I came to see you?” He smirked slightly but registered I wasn’t having it so he dropped it at once.
A silence fell upon us and we had somehow made it onto the living room floor, just sitting and listening to each other breathe.
“I’m sorry,” Nathan’s voice cracked a little at the end and my head shot up. “I’m sorry I lied to you, I’m sorry about Ariana…I’m just sorry,” he rambled and I watched his eyes grow redder with every word. I couldn’t stand my ground and I kneeled in front of him and hugged him tightly. Nathan sighed and wrapped his arms around me. I felt fresh tears on the shoulder of my shirt and I started to cry as well.
Nathan pulled back a bit and smiled a tiny smile as I wiped his tears away with my thumbs.
“Let me prove myself to you. I want you back, Addison, so give me time—give ourselves time and maybe we’ll get back to where we were…” he said and my mouth quirked to one side sympathetically.
“It will never be the same, Nathan,” I loosened my arms around his neck but he only pulled me closer.
“I know, but please…let me fix it somehow,” he grinned hopefully and I rested my forehead on his shoulder.
“Okay,” I breathed and I felt him tense up for a second.
“Really?” He said happily and I raised my head and nodded. He grabbed my hand and kissed my knuckles.
"But...we're not together, not now...." I bit my lip and his smile faltered.
"That's fine, I understand," he said and I smiled softly.
We both got up off the floor and Nathan decided to make tea for us and I went ahead and put in a random movie in the player. As I was about to enter the kitchenette, the doorbell rings and reality slaps me in the face.
Finn was here.
A/N: Helloooooo lovely readers :) That was a pretty long chapter and even I'm surprised I had the time to write it amidst the chaos of moving :P Anyway, you may have noticed the Harries twins are becoming a prominent part in the story, but don't worry, this is, afterall, a The Wanted/Nathan Sykes fanfic, sooooo yeah...I'll leave it to your imagination and I'll just shut up now ;)
