Y/n's pov
"You didn't go to your dad's funeral?" Shawn asked, shocked.
"I barely knew him." You replied, looking at slideshow of family pictures that were on the TV.
"Yeah, but still. I don't get how you can just skip your fathers funeral." He said, turning to face you on the couch.
"Didn't feel like he was my father...He left when I was three and was never there when I needed him." You replied, glancing over at him for a moment.
"Didn't you miss him."
"I don't know what I was supposed to be missing."
"But didn't you miss the idea of him?"
"Nope, not really. Fathers must be optional since the mother can just fill in the gaps."
"That isn't exactly right." He replied, getting defensive.
"Oh, you know what I'm on about." You said, hopping up from the couch to change the disc, since you both realised that it was now replaying everything.
"But I really don't."
You sat back down and turned to face Shawn, thinking for a second.
"I suppose they're nice to have, if you're lucky enough to have one, but they're not exactly necessary."
He sat up straight, crossing him arms, looking directly at you, giving no effort in trying to hide how pissed he was starting to get.
"They're absolutely necessary."
"I turned out just fine without one." You replied, surprised that he was taking this to heart.
He stood up from the couch, shaking his head at you.
" Ah Shawn. Come on...." You trailed off. He walked towards the stairs, away from you.
"I don't understand why you're getting so mad at me about this...We don't even have kids yet."
He stopped halfway up the stairs and looked you right in the eye, giving you a death glare. If looks could kill, you'd be dead in less than a second.
"Exactly...We don't even have kids yet and you're already saying that I'm optional." He said looking hurt, making your heart melt.
"I'm not talking about you...I'm talking about men in general."
"Whatever, I can't talk to you right now. I'm going up to bed." He said before walking up the rest of the stairs.
You heard tour bedroom door open and then slam closed straight after, making you let out a loud sigh.
You decided that while Shawn calmed down a bit you'd have a rest as well. You took the blanket from the side of the couch and put it over you before eventually drifting off to a peaceful sleep.
