Standing in the snow Espex looked on at his birth place, His village. Samth stood still smirking and laughing at the fact she had beaten him with Grix as always at her side doing the same.

Espex face was one of contempt “You know you can stop laughing now, it doesn’t become you.”

Samth still in a giggle fit gave a reply “Hush you, whenever do I get to gloat over you? You however do it to me all the time.” Her face puffed up.

Espex smirked, “Ah but when I do it lass, it is awesome.” With a glint in his purple eye he laughed and nodded his head. “I suppose this time I shall allow it, but only this time.”

Both Espex and Samth with Grix started to wonder deeper into the town that Espex had come from. All the buildings square each the same as the last, only one building in the entire building town stood out, A large church with a pointed roof right in the Centre, It was also the direction Espex was leading Samth to. As they looked around Espex seemed to have an almost pained look on his face, not so much hurt but rage, Samth had seen it a few times it only ever came onto his face when she asked about his birthplace. The afternoon air was thick and cool, Samth’s nose was cold and her usually peach skin was red. Espex just wondered through the snow as if it was nothing, His purple hair swayed as he walked and his ghost white skin never changed colour, Samth wondered if Espex could even feel the temperature.

“Where are we going?” Samth asked after a good five minutes of walking.

Espex just kept walking

“Hello?”

Finally Espex replied. “The church”

“Oh what’s in that?”

“Problems,” Espex said with a grim tone.

“How so?”

Stopping in his stride Espex turned and looked intensely at Samth’s bright blue eyes. “I don’t know what will happen once I enter the hall, maybe nothing maybe something.”

“What do you mean? Isn’t this your home?” Concern in Samth’s voice and it was plastered on her skinny red face.

“It is my home and it isn’t, I was exiled from here when I was a kid.”

“Why!” Blurted out Samth.

“Well…” A smirk crossed Espex face exposing his sharp teeth. “I killed our Lord and leader.”

Samth stood jaw wide open, Espex merely turned round and continued to walk forward, Samth turned to her friend Grix who stood on her shoulder, and “Did you know about this?” The creature just nodded and gave a loud bark.

“Hurry up Samth or I shall leave you, the person I seek is inside that Hall… Hopefully.”

Samth ran through the knee deep snow towards Espex.

As they walked Espex began to speak, “How is your new move coming along then?”

Shock spread across Samth’s slim face, “How do you know!?”

Espex smirked “There is very little I don’t know, you sneak of at night to train, you take me for a fool Samth, and I have watched you a few times. Looks impressive what is it called?”

Samth just stared at her feet as she walked and replied, “Fuujin Step. It is of wind, I wanted something that could keep up with Haya.”

Espex laughed “Scary, scary indeed. You do know that Haya has a lightning move called Raijin Step?” laughter sprouting out his fanged mouth.

“Really!” a sigh came out Samth’s bright red lipped mouth.

“Don’t worry, from what I have seen of your imperfect technique, you may give him a run for his money, sadly it is still nowhere near his light magic. Practice makes perfect Samth. Practice makes perfect.”

An annoyed and cold Samth said nothing, Grix just stood on her shoulder patting her head while purring, it was his way to calm her down, it worked most of the time.

With a sniff of the air Espex stopped moving and looked at Samth. “Once we enter this Hall, be ready to fight, and when I say fight I mean flee.” Samth looked at him as he spoke his tone grim once more. “Each of the people in this village is as tough as me, or Haya. Physically anyway, we don’t have to worry about magic users here, It is outlawed.” Samth just nodded, her new spell may come in handy sooner than expected.

Finally they reached the Hall, Its door huge and made from thick wood. It took Espex all his might to open but one of the doors, while Samth stood ready, her hands close together to form a mana seal. Fear entered her mind, fear of the unknown, she had felt it a lot since meeting Espex and it wasn’t getting any easier to deal with.

As the light of the noon sun shown into the hall the first glimpse was of the old wooden floor, it was dark brown and dented in many areas; it had seen battle but never repaired. Espex stood and watched the scene unfold in front of him. A hall full of people, all dressed roughly the same, all wearing what Samth and Espex wore, Seal leathers. The entire Hall was packed with people at least four hundred maybe more, even children. All bowing down at Espex and Samth. Only one person stood up in the entire group. A little old woman, she was held up by a walking stick and had a face of scorn.

“Espex you silly little boy. What brings you here!?” Her accent like Espex and Haya’s.

Espex just smirked and looked at the old lady. “Hello Gramps.”

“Hello gramps me!” The woman suddenly burst forth like a rabbit in chase. Samth couldn’t even react and she was at Espex, The loud smack echoed the hall, Espex usually ghost white face now red from the slap his gran had given him.

Unmoving Espex looked at his Gran. “Is that anyway to be treating the Lord?”

Shock once again on Samth’s face as she looked at Espex,

All at once the people chanted. “All hail Lord Espex!”

Espex the highest bounty mage of Skov was a lord, Samth couldn’t believe it.
