Samth woke up to a cold air in the shack. The morning light was bright and pain fully got up from the make shift bed, cracking her joints of stiffness. Yawning wide with her bright red lips she scanned the room for Espex, then she released he wasn't here. A great sadness over took Samth for a while, changing her natural grin to a saddened one. One the wooden splintered table was some bread and a leg of hare, a small note next to it.
'Samth I have gone to do business do not worry you are safe here, Read the books on the shelves to pass the time and learn a thing or two about mana, Impress Espex when he returns in a week."
Samth saw hope in the note, 'Impress Espex when he returns." This stuck the most. If Haya said he would be back he would be. Wouldn't he? No Samth shook her head of these horrible thoughts and sat down to her meal. She kept half the bread for later in the day and made her way to the books. Old, worn and thick these books all had the words 'Mana, Mage or Spell' on them. The one Samth picked after twenty minutes of choosing was one of the thinnest. It was dark green and had the title 'Earth Mana and Elements' She took it with her skinny pale hands and wondered over to the table and sat reading. Time passed at it was noon already. The sun light passed through the cracks in the badly maintained door.
"Hmm, Earth mana flow starts from my feet up to my head. Then when mastered say the spell words and hope it words."
She read out aloud as it helped her concentrate, she picked herself up from the chair and wondered outside. The air was warmer now and the breeze was nice. All around her plains of grass and nothing within site. She wondered what area she was in, as Haya said it would take Espex a week to get here from Gord. Again Espex entered her mind and again grim thoughts of him filled her mind. She shook it off flaying her short blonde hair side to side over her skinny face.
"Time to practice this earth magic, I must get stronger"
Walking to the middle of the field in front she placed herself on the floor and prayed. Allowing mana to gather at her feet and slowly move up. This took hours upon hours of practice. The sun was setting and Samths skinny stomach ached for food. She got up of the ground and made her way back into the small shack to tuck down into her other half of bread. Samth had only been here a day but was feeling rather lonely. She had never been on her own. Espex or Grix would always be with her.
"Grix....I miss you."
She ate her bread at the old table and made her way back to the makeshift bed of old coloured cloths and went to sleep. Morning broke and Samth looked up. The air today was warm and shining. On the table stood a candle with a large box of matches. Bread and another piece of meat there was also a small note. Samth made her way towards it. Looking down she noticed it was scribbled in a rush.
'Morning lass, Sorry I will not be around again, Here is some meat and bread. I also don't know if you know fire mana, so in case you don't here is a candle and matches. The book entitled 'Mana and the Heat' is the best one to learn fire, be patient he will be here soon. Haya'
Samth smirked with her red lips and tucked down on her breakfast. The earth mana book she was reading was on the table also. She spent the day much like the last, training and reading on mana of earth. In the field she stood and clapped her slim hands together. "Chikyu Kibe!" The words of mana spoken earth in front of Samth moulted and broke, mud, worms and insects broke forth all being dragged up by a wall of earth. Its height no more than her knees but it was a start. Samth let out a sigh of relief, sweat pouring out her head. She thumped down onto the grass to look at the darkening sky. It was a clear sky. Stars clear and the moon round.
Talking to herself as she looked up, "They say each star is a great hero, that has earned their place with the gods." She laughed when she realized she was alone. It also pained her. Being lonely was a hard thing to deal with. If it weren't for the books and training Samth would have gone mad with grief.
"Earth mana is harder than air," getting herself up off the ground Samth made her way back into the house for some supper and sleep.
Today Samth woke up with Haya looking down at her from the table. His body still wrapped head to toe with bandages and his dead white hair and eyes looking at her.
"Morning lass, we need to talk." Even though Haya did not possess pupils his eyes looked saddened.
Panic cover took Samth and she jumped up from the bed "What's wrong?!"
Haya looked down then spoke in his weird accent. "It's about Espex.... Please sit."
