I gasped awake and started shaking violently. I took in my surroundings and see I'm in a cage, with boxes around me. Where am I? I let out a gasp when the cage started moving. Oh, no, where am I going? I got up and started pounding on the wall.
"Help! Help me! Let me out! Let me out! Hey, let me out! Somebody, help me!"
The cage kept moving faster and faster. I was looking around for a way out. I see no door, so probably the ceiling. The cage came to an abrupt stop, causing me to fall on my back.
"Ow." I groaned.
I hear the top part of the cage open. I quickly got up, ignoring the pain from my back, and hid behind a few boxes. I put my hand over my eyes to block the sunlight. I hear the sound of feet coming down.
"Where's the Greenie?" A voice said.
"I don't know. He must be bloody scared." A British voice said.
Greenie. What the hell does that mean?
Footsteps were making its way around the cage. I held my breathe hoping - whoever it was - wouldn't see me. That didn't go well because the guy saw me behind the boxes. He looked at me wide-eyed.
"Holy..." the guy trailed off.
"What is it, Newt?" Another voice said.
He looked up, "It's a girl."
There were more footsteps, but none of them came inside. I looked up and see a group of boys crowding around the opening.
"What does she look like?"
"Is she hot?"
"I call dibs!"
No way. I'm am not something to be called dibs. I glared up at the group of boys and some took a step back.
"Slim it!" A voice yelled out.
Everyone fell into silence. The blonde guy, Newt, walked closer to me. I immediately scooted away from him. I couldn't back up that much since my back hit the metal wall.
Newt slowly raised his hands up, "It's ok, Greenie. We're not going to hurt you." I didn't answer him. He kept walking closer, then slowly held his hand out. "You're safe. I promise."
I looked into his eyes, they look familiar, warm. I felt like I could trust him. I slowly put my hand in his and he helped me up. We got out of that cage and the guys were looking at me. I looked around the place.
Where am I?
"Well, She-bean, welcome to the Glade."
I turned to look at the guy in the middle of the group. He had short brown hair and was wearing glasses.
He stepped forward and held his hand out, "Day one, She-bean. Name's Nick."
I looked at his hand, then at Newt. He gestured towards the hand and gave me a small nod, saying it's ok. I slowly shook Nick's hand.
"Do you know your name, Greenie?"
I opened my mouth to respond, but nothing came out. I can't remember my name. I can't remember anything actually; my family, my friends, any memories of my past, just small details.
"I don't know." I said.
He nodded his head, "That's ok. Most of us here haven't remembered ours either for a few days."
This happened more than once? Do others not remember anything either?
"Why can't I remember anything?" I asked.
"That will be answer after the Tour."

After the group of boys scattered away and went back to work, Nick started showing me around and explaining things.
He told me about the Box, the thing I arrived in, how every week supplies were sent up and every month they get a new Greenie. He also explained how Greenie means Newbie and that I'll get use to Glader slang. How the Glade, where I now live at, has four sections - Homestead, Blood House, Gardens, and Deadheads. He told me about the Keepers - the bosses of each jobs. Also, starting tomorrow, I have to work each job for two weeks to see which one I'm more qualified for.
"We have three rules here. 1) Everyone does their part, no slackers. 2) Never harm another Glader, we have to trust each other. 3) Never go outside the walls, unless your a Runner. You got that, She-bean?" Nick asked. I nodded my head. "Good. Now, tonight we're having a welcoming party. It's sort of a tradition we have whenever a Greenie arrives. And since you're the first girl ever, it's going to be extra special."
"Why am I the only girl here? Why can't I remember anything?" I asked.
"The last one's easy, we believe the Creators wiped our memories. The first one...not sure. We never got a girl here before."
I looked confused, "Creators?"
"The ones who send us here. Any more questions?" I shook my head. "Good. Wait here. I'm going to get Alby, he's second in command, he'll show you where you'll be sleeping."
Nick walked away. I just stood there awkwardly and kicked a rock. A few minutes later a dark-skinned guy came up to me.
"Greenie, I'm Alby." We shook hands. "Follow me."
He took me to the Homestead. The building was a bit slanted. When we went in there were stairs and some floorboards that were missing a few pieces. Is this safe? The guys inside stopped what they were doing and looked at me. I stood there awkwardly.
"Get back to work, you shanks!" Alby yelled. The boys left quickly. Alby went upstairs and looked back when he noticed I wasn't following him. "You coming?"
"Is it safe?" I asked.
He chuckled, "If it wasn't, we wouldn't be walking on it."
I slowly nodded and followed him. Some of the stairs creaked. We went through the hallway and stopped at a room.
He turned to me, "Since you're the only girl here, you needed to be safe. That's why Nick decided you needed to share a room with someone trustworthy."
He opened the door and I see Newt making a bed, well hammock, at one corner of the room. Newt turned around when he heard the door open.
"She-bean, meet your roommate. I'll leave you two to get acquainted and don't forget about tonight." Alby said before he left.
Newt gave me a small smile and held his hand out, "I didn't get to introduce myself properly. Newt."
I shook his hand, "I'd tell you my name, but I don't know it."
"How are you?"
"A bit awkward with everyone staring at me. Other than that I'm great."
He nodded his head and gestured to one of the hammocks, "Well, you'll be sleeping here. If that's alright with you. A lot of the Gladers sleep outside anyway, so no one should to bother you."
I send a shy smile, "Thanks."
He send one back before leaving the room. I don't what it is about him, but he seems...familiar. Like I met him before. But, that's impossible. I've never met him before.
So, why does it feel like I have?
