Chapter Four Emily

I wake up to sunlight leaking into my room. I switch to the other side of the bed and turn around, to not be blinded by it. But the only result of this is being stared at by a questioning face. I think I recognize her, from school. But who? All of a sudden the girl yells my name, "Emily!" Then, I know who she is, Cecelia, from school. I've seen her, but not that many times. She has platinum blonde hair, and bright green eyes. She's really pretty, but also really shy, and can be very eccentric once in a while.... But then, I realize; wait, why is she in my room!? I sit up, and notice suddenly that it's not just Cecelia and me, there are around a lot more people in here! I'm not even in my own room! We are in a dorm!
  We both chat a while, and I figure out, sadly, that; one, I am part of the 0.3% of the earth's teens who get taken. Two, Cecelia doesn't even know about the legend! How could she!?Anyway, eventually, we get up and we don't even need to get dressed, we all slept in uniforms. A lady comes in telling us to go to an assembly. She wakes up the people who didn't wake up yet. We see the confused faces of all the kids looking around, in astonishment. Then, she leads us outside and down some stairs. The stairs lead down to a circle shape, the air is stuffy, and it's kind of smells like sweat. After the stairs, we go down a very cold hallway, where most of us say,"Awwwww! Shoot! I really should've brought a jacket down here!". Of course, Cecelia tells me that, and I agree with her, by nodding my head.
  Finally, we reach a large room. And at the end of the room, there is a small stage. On that stage, there are four people. One of them seems more important, and more official. The one at the left is short, and holds a microphone. The two others are just standing there, not doing anything, just murmuring something, we can't hear. Chairs are aligned neatly all over the room. We all sit down with a synchronized thump. The short guy, up stage, announces,
"Hello, I welcome you all to the Academy! Now, let me present you our principal."
We all whisper to our neighbors, with confusion. Then, a tall lady takes the microphone, and with a very formal voice she says,
"Hello, my name is Edna Black. I am the director of this establishment, and I am very happy to welcome all of you here. I bet that everyone is extremely confused, and I understand. Let me just make this clear; you all have powers. Powers that will enable you to control the different elements, depending on your category; water, fire, earth, and air. You will also be taught to transform into a given animal-"
  Even though she was surely not done, everyone starts talking at once. But only one annoying voice stands out,
"Um, excuse me miss, my name is Sherman, but the laws of science do not allow you to "control" elements of the planet earth, and, sorry to interrupt, but, um, this is technically illegal, according to the law of the book 34, page 69, paragraph 3 line 1596.", we all turned to him, and see he is carrying a huge science textbook, that he probably slept with last night. So, when he got taken, they had to take it with him..... After that, there is a huge awkward silence, and after a while Ms. Edna starts speaking again,
"Okay, so as I was saying, you will learn how to master you powers for three years, after that, you will be left with a big decision, that we will not talk about at all for the first two years."
She seems extremely annoyed by Sherman, and stares at him while she talks. He inches back in his chair and opens his textbook, probably to find out some other things to add to his list of complaints about this place.
Some loud giggles are heard in a certain part of the room, in the front on the right. There, a group of girls are making fun of Sherman. They are acting kind of mean, but they have a point......honestly....
After a while of talking, Ms Edna stops, and gives the microphone to one of the two wordless men on the side of the stage. He says,
"Now, we shall proceed in the transformation demo......"
Next thing you know, a raven flies over us, and the principal is gone. Wait, but the man announced that the "transformation demo" will start. So, Ms Edna probably is that Raven!! We all gasp in astonishment, realizing that these were not lies. Cecilia looks at me with surprise, and whispers something in my ear. With all the noise, I can't hear, so I just nod. I know that was bad, but I'm too focused on Ms Edna Black. That's probably why her last name is Black, simply because Ravens are black, and she can transform into a raven!! She transforms back into a human and bows, then walks off the stage.
  Then, people pass out our weekly schedules and a map of the establishment.
