Harry's POV
My anger's wearing thin already when I park in the parking lot of Amy's building. That fucking bitch. I look around and don't see her car anywhere near. Maybe she's not even home, but I need to make sure. Because if she is, she needs to know how things will play from now on.
I step inside and a tall and young new boy is replacing the fat caveman that always gave me a look when I would come here. There weren't that many times, but he always made sure to show he despised me, even without knowing me. Just like everybody else. The young boy, maybe near my age gives a good night and I just nod.
I knock several times before she opens the door. She looks surprised, but she knows why I'm here. Fucking God, I'm on the edge just by watching that bitch's stupid grin, the one I was always indifferent about.
"It was you, wasn't?"
"Welcome back. Long time no see." She gestures for me to come inside. I storm past her but the room is not just for us.
Fuck.
"Harry Styles. I see you didn't gave it all up." His voice reminds me of how well he can deceive you, how good he is with words. "So you two are dating now?" Smith grins at Amy who is testing me, giving me a wink.
I think I'm on mute because I want to talk, to put him in his place and smack his head hard against the window. But my mouth is shut and I can't open it. And my body is rigid like stone.
"No, he has a little girlfriend now. Or had."
"Shut the fuck up." My voice comes out loudly and I push her past the room and push her against the wall. She struggles to let go of my hold but there's no way I'm letting her.
"So now what, are you gonna hit me? Go ahead. Nothing I've never experienced before." Amy's words make my stomach twist in disgust, as her cold voice says it. I would never hit a woman. I'm not that kind of man. The one I know she grew up with. And hearing her say it makes me sick, making it as her ticket to uncoil from my grip.
"Really Styles? Who would have known that could be possible." He laughs it out as if not intended to affect me.
"Why are you here?" My voice comes lower than intended.
"What do you think?" Smith's tall body walks over where I stand. "Making a living, as always."
Of course.
"Everything has changed."
"No, Harry. Everything is the same. You're just not part of it anymore." After everything that happen, this is the first time I see him again. But he's the same, he's right. The same talk, the same venom.
"You're welcome back any time you want. And you know how well I reward my staff."
Reward. His rewards are what draws most of his little clan around him. I was one of them once.
Amy smirks from across the room. I seriously have to clench my fists so I don't lose it.
"But tell me, how's your father?"
"Pay him a visit or something. He was your best friend, not mine remember?"
Smith's smile gives me the chills. "I sure will. And it might be for soon."
"So you're still on this?" I turn to meet Amy's gaze.
"They're all on this. Everyone. Expect you." His frankness always cut me off guard. "Are you sure you don't wanna reconsider?"
Fucking sure I don't. The main reason for my life to be the biggest fucked up event in history is him. If I'd never agreeded to that stupid plan I'd never become this shity person. But screwing my father's life was on my mind for a very long time. And I did it. Only mine was the most damaged.
Amy takes my arm but I jerk it away. She whispers. "Think about it, Harry. Isn't what you've always wanted, to make him pay?" I regret now so much having opened my fucking mouth for her. She knows me all too well and that's not good.
I ignore her question. "Don't you dare come near her again. I won't warned you next time."
Smith laughs out loud. "Styles, chill. You know what we should do? We should all grab lunch together someday. Your girl can come too. Perhaps I could put some sense into her as I did with you."
Thinking about Smith meeting Melissa sends me over the edge. She's not my girl, but I will never let anyone hurt her because of me. Ever.
"Fuck you both." I storm out of the apartment before I'd got my hands on Smith. I'd gladly beat the shit out of him like I did before but then I also remember what happen the last time I did it. The scar on the back of my neck was the result.
I drive away, gripping the steering wheel so hard my hands start to get numb. I can't let anybody hurt her. Melissa will never get involved with Smith, I'll never let him near her.
My phone buzzes on my pocket, drifting me from my angry thoughts.
"Hey."
"Harry, sweetie." My mother's warm voice comes through the speaker. "How are you?"
This doesn't happen often. "I'm driving."
"Oh I'm sorry then. I'll talk to you later."
"What do you want?" My tone is too cold but I can't say I regret it.
"I just... I wanted to see you."
"I'm going home now, you can meet me there."
"I-I just wanted you to come here." Her voice lowers when she realizes what she's asking. "Your father's not here."
"No."
She takes a deep breath from the other side. "Please, Harry. I miss having you here."
"You can come to my place otherwise you can talk with your other son. I'm sure his always available for you." I hang up the phone and throw it against the black leather passenger seat.
My head is pounding like hell and finally arrive at the parking lot of the apartment. It's late and only a few cars are parked here. I don't really understand why people love so much this city at night. It's only more noise and more lights. Apparently that's fascinating.
When I approach the building Liam and Melissa's friend, Sophia, walk in the lobby, all over themselves.
They won't last long though. Liam never kept a girl for long. Either they're only in it for the money or... they're only in for the money. And this one, Sophia, seems a bitch like the others. I don't understand how can Melissa consider her as a best friend. The few times that we talked she was obnoxious. And she's got an attitude which I don't particularly like.
But then I see the little piece of shit, Niall. Of course he'd be here. He probably came as soon as he knew what happened in their apartment. He takes every opportunity to be around her and that pisses me up so fucking much. I watch as they all take the elevator, laughing at some lame ass joke Niall said.
It's late and I wonder if she's asleep already. If she is she'll probably wake up as soon as they storm into her door. My mind keeps reminding me that she's not mine but my will is too strong. I can't stand the idea of Niall near Melissa.
I text Zayn to give me Melissa's number while waiting outside of the building.
When he does, I don't think twice.
