Chapter 10

 ~TAURTIS'S P.O.V.~

~MONDAY~

 This week we were told a new student was coming. We all sat down and waited for the new gal. "OK, students, this is Blue! Please be kind, and Blue, please come in!" Mrs. Okami announced. A girl with short, blue hair walked in and smiled slightly. Her left eye was a crystal pink and her right eye was a bright, light green. A black hood covered the top of her head, too. She nervously held on to her back pack and she sat behind Dom. Dom gave a nasty glare and Blue looked angry, but not surprised. Class went on as usual, and the bell rang for lunch. Everyone swarmed the halls and we got to the cafeteria. Dom and Blue were standing next to each other talking, and Blue turned her head to me. She looked at me curiously and she talked to Dom again. She walked towards the table where me, Sam, Ellen, and Caramel sat (Grian began sitting with J).

"Umm.. Hey, you got into a fight with Dom?" She asked shyly to me. I blushed and nodded, and Ellen looked to the ground. "Well, he probably deserved it. As you know, I'm Blue, and Dom's my cousin." she said quietly. Sam's jaw dropped to the ground. Ellen's eyes widened and Sam and her freaked out. "BUT HE'S SO MEAN!! YOU LOOK SO NICE, AND KIND, BUT HE'S DOM, AND YOU'RE.. BLUE, AND HE'S... DOM!!" they ranted. She blushed embarrassingly. "Umm.. ya.. he can hear you, but.. I'll see you around.." I looked over to Dom, and his face was red as a tomato. He got stabbed, we should probably give him a break..

 We finished lunch and the bell rang for gym. We walked to class together, and we got dressed in our gym uniforms. "LINE UP, MAGGOTS. TODAY, WE'RE RUNNING THE TRACK." Mr. Rowan said. Blue was paying attention and she jumped from his screaming. Someone REALLY should have warned her about Mr. Rowan.. We got to the track outside and everyone lined up. Mr. Rowan blew his whistle and Sam, Dom, Caramel, and Blue went flying, leaving the rest of us to eat their dust. Blue's hood fell off to reveal cat ears that you could barely see through all that DUST. We all ran after them after getting over the shock of how FAST they were. The line that marked the end on the track was just in sight and Caramel just crossed the line. Blue's hood was pulled back on her head, and she was standing nervously. "WHY CAN'T YOU MAGGOTS BE HYBRIDS.." Mr. Rowan complained. I looked behind me and Ellen looked over heated. She was barely standing, so I crossed the line with one foot and ran back to her. I picked her up to set her on my shoulders, and I ran her to the finish line. I set her on the ground and Grian handed her a water bottle. "WEAK MAGGOT." Mr. Rowan screamed in her ear. It was about 97 degrees outside, I didn't know I was able to run myself! The bell finally rang and we all got dressed in out regular clothes in the dressing rooms. We all walked to Dom's house to see Blue.

 I rang the doorbell and Dom answered the door. He was holding his stomach and Sam hid behind the wall. His wolf ears were showing, and he called for Blue. She blushed at the thought of us coming to visit her, and we all talked for a while. Ellen and Blue especially talked for quite a long time, since Ellen was a hybrid specialist or something. We felt like we had become good friends with Blue, so we left and went home. Me and Sam fell behind them all. "You think she's cute, don't ya?" he asked laughing. I felt my face turn red and I yelled, "NO!!" Everyone turned around to look at me and they laughed quietly among themselves. THANKS, Sam, FOR EMBARRASSING ME LIKE THAT. Besides, that would just make Dom hate me more than he already does. I can't stand the sight of his face either, so we mostly just ignore each other..

 ~FRIDAY~

 Blue was acing all her tests and quizzes, and everyone begged her for help, or just demanded answers. She really is smart, but I'm an idiot when it comes to math..

 I'm kind of becoming.. upset. It's almost time for high school, and that means dances and stuff. I KNOW Sam is going to want to ask Ellen to the dances. Maybe she'll just go with Caramel and Blue. I'll go with Sam and Grian, then. Ugh, I don't know. That's next year. But, it's still very close to the last day of school. We've mostly just been doing nothing in class. The bell rang for lunch, and we went to eat. Sam unusually went to the bathroom for a long time, and Ellen looked a little worried, so I went to check on him. I walked in to see him lying on the ground, crying, in pain.

 "Sam?!" I yelled. "AAAGGGGHHHH!!!!!" he screamed. Ellen ran in, even though it was the boy's bathroom. "SAM, IT'S OK!!!" She yelled. Sam's eyes flashed a bright red, and Ellen weakly screamed. She pulled him up to lay his head on her lap. I locked the door, and Ellen rocked him. "It's ok, he won't hurt you, you're gonna be ok, I won't let him hurt you.." she continued to comfort him. Sam clenched his stomach, and she pet his rabbit ears. He continued to scream, and every time he showed he was in pain, Ellen winced. Sam was sweating, his palms were all red, he was obviously in need of help, but Ellen seemed to be the only help he needed. After a while, Sam's eyes stopped flashing red, and he began to catch his breath again. We suddenly heard banging on the door. "GUYS, STAY IN THERE!!" Caramel, Grian, and Blue screamed. "PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO GET THROUGH!!!" Me and Ellen looked at each other scared. "CLEAR THE WAY!!!!" we shouted back. I unlocked the door, and everyone tried to flood in. Me and Ellen picked up and carried the weak Sam to outside the school, and everyone followed. Everyone was taking pictures, filming, trying to get a look at Sam, who couldn't even sit up.  Ellen called 911 and an ambulance drove up to much later. They picked up Sam and laid him on a stretcher. They immediately rushed him to the hospital, and Grian, Caramel, Ellen, Blue, and I were allowed to follow them. We ran to the hospital as fast as we could, and we waited for a doctor's answer in the waiting room.

 Ellen paced the floor, tearing up. I stomped my foot, panicky. Grian was in deep thought, worried sick. Caramel was trying to hold back the tears. Blue was working on slowing down her breathing. Dom was getting checked up on by a doctor for his wound. He shouldn't have ran, apparently. Finally, a doctor walked through. "Those who are waiting on.. Sam Gladiator?" We stood up immediately. "Follow me, please." We followed him through a door and we entered Sam's room, where he was sleeping, peacefully.

 "Well, he'll be fine, but only living with his sister and his dad who, is never home, is unacceptable. He's going to have to move in with Ellen." Ellen was shocked at this, and she looked at me. "They, luckily, have dorms at the high school you all are going to. You two can share a dorm." THIS was unacceptable. "NO, they can't!!" I yelled. "Yes, they WILL, They'll allow it for the reason, even though it would be a girl and boy." My face turned red. Ellen grabbed my hand. "It's ok, Taurtis. Nothing's gonna happen." she said gently. She smiled nervously, but I was still upset. Ellen frowned, knowing this, and the doctor left us in Sam's room. Caramel walked up to him and grabbed his hand, being careful not to wake him up. "We'll leave you." Ellen said. "No, Ellen, you need to stay." Caramel replied. Ellen walked up to Sam and Caramel. The rest of us left.

~ELLEN'S P.O.V.~

 The door closed, and it was just us three. Caramel gently laid Sam's hand in mine, and I held on to his hand. Caramel stayed a minute longer, then she left, to leave me and Sam, holding hands. I blushed at the thought of us holding hands, even though it was just us two. Sam shifted a bit, and winced. I let go of his hand IMMEDATELY, and Sam's eyes opened slowly to look at me. "Ellen.." he managed to say weakly. "No, Sam, don't talk. Go back to sleep." I said quietly. "No, I feel safer with you.." he said quietly, and he grabbed my hand again. We both blushed, and Sam slightly smiled. He lightly squeezed my hand, and he went back to sleep. I put my hand to his head to feel his temperature, and he felt like he was a bit cooler than when he was in the bathroom.. being tortured..

 All I could see was what Sam was seeing. I saw Evil Sam, trying to get to him, again.. Sam was only remembering some sad memory from his past, so Evil Sam decided to take a chance, and enter his mind again. He succeeded for about a second, but that's when I started comforting him. Evil Sam then began backing down again. I'm NEVER going to let him hurt Sam again..

 I let go of his hand and I walked out to go meet the rest of them. Grian was holding Caramel while she cried, Taurtis was talking quietly with Blue, and Dom just walked through a door to meet with them, too. "School's over now, so we can go home.." Grian mentioned. We were all quiet, still thinking about what happened. "When's he gonna be out?" Dom asked. "He'll be released tomorrow." Grian answered. I was happy to know he'd be released that soon. We all walked to where we lived and later on, went to sleep. Except me, I had a hard time falling asleep. I'm still trying to get over my depression. Empathy ruined me, then mom died, then dad left us, now Sam. My heart feels like it's trying its best to hold up a million pound weight, but it wants to give up. It knows it has to, but it can't take it anymore. It just wants to..

No, I can't think like that. I have to live for everyone, especially for Sam. Imagine what he'd do if I died..

 I finally drifted off to sleep.
