Chapter 23

~ELLEN'S P.O.V.~

 I can't go to sleep I looked at the clock. It read 12:34. Sam was sleeping soundly, but I could only think. That girl.. Mary was her name. What had I read about bat hybrids.. I quietly got up and grabbed my study journal. I sat on the couch and looked through my notes and studies. Sam was still asleep. I got to the page I was looking for. 'Let's see, bats, wings, violet eyes, blonde hair, genes and more genes. Here, actual bats. Past, no sense of present..' "Still thinking of Mary?" Sam asked sleepily. "You're awake?" I asked. "I could hear your thoughts." he admitted. "Go back to bed." I said. He covered his head with his covers and went back to sleep. I looked back into my studies.

 Bats

No sense of understanding present time.

1812 bat-died of mental damage. Complained of Evil presence, driven mad.

Albert Einstein's notes- Unknown part of brain, discovered to give bat timeless knowledge of past.

Bats are known for predicting past.

1799 bat-predicted past. Helped in discovery of Rosetta Stone.

Genetic-Blonde hair. Violet eyes. Porcelain skin.

I closed my studies journal. "Interesting." Sam commented. "Sam, go to sleep." I commanded. "I can't you think too loudly!" he joked. "Why do you think she came to us.." I wondered aloud. "Something about our past?" Sam offered the idea. "No duh" I joked. "Goodnight" "Goodnight" I got back in my bed and went to bed. I fell asleep quickly.

 I woke up and Sam was up, watching TV. The clock read 9:46. I got up and got ready for the day. I headed out the door to find Mary. As I stepped out the dorm room, Sam grabbed my arm. "What, no breakfast?" he asked. "Not hungry." I said. My stomach growled loudly and Sam's ear twitched. "You need something to eat." "Why do you care for me all of a sudden?" "Because I'm worried about you." "There's nothing to worry about!" "Why are you so concerned about Mary??" "I just am!" "Ellen." I let out a huge sigh. "The thing is, I want to help Jasper and Winter, so I need to see if she knows anything." Sam finally let go of me. "Alright, good luck.." he said nervously. "Thanks.." I said. I walked to the lounge.

Ya, no, that's not why I'm seeing her.

 I walked up to the front desk. "Hi, can I get the room number for Mary?" I asked the person behind the desk. She turned around to reveal it was Mary. "Sure, my room is three doors away from yours on the right!" she said. "Oh, Mary, I need to talk to you!" I said. "What is it?" she asked smiling. "My studies say you can see the past, that's correct?" I asked. She nodded, "Something you need to know?" she asked. "If you looked into my past, you'd see I was depressed. With what's going on now, can you tell if I'm still depressed? I feel like I am.." I admitted. She grabbed my hand, and ran her fingers along my fingers. She slowly nodded her head. "Not being able to take too much serious emotion, not even being able to love, sounds like depression to me." she said.

My heart broke.

 "Thanks, so much.." I said. She nodded her head. "It's ok Ellen.." she said. I walked away and went back to my dorm.

Knowing I'm depressed only made me more depressed.

 I walked through the door, into the room. Sam was watching TV. "Anything?" he asked. "No.." I said. He frowned, "Well, you can't expect something so big from a nine year old.." he said. "I know, I just wish I could help them." I made up. "I know, I wish I could too.." he said.

I don't think I can take it anymore.

 "Well, I'm gonna go hang with Grian, so later." he said as he left. "Ok, bye." I said. "Bye."
