Katy was out of breath by the time she reached their blue Toyota. She opened the door and slid in. "Daemon, that was out of line back there. You should go back and apologize." Daemon didn't look at her. "What was out of line was Dawson keeping secrets behind my back," he shot back. Katy sighed. "Look I was upset too. But this is supposed to be our night out. We're supposed to be enjoying spending time with each other, not jumping down each other's throats. Can you just talk to Dawson about this later?" "No!" Daemon yelled. "I just wanna go home and go to bed." "Oh come on Daemon it's only 8:30. Dee drove three hours to be with us and you're going to make Beth feel bad about arranging this whole thing," Katy explained. "I don't give a flip," Daemon responded. "Of course you do. You just don't want to admit it. Quit acting like a child, get back in there and let's finish our dinner." Daemon didn't move. "Please. For me?" Katy said quietly. Daemon turned in her direction and for a split second she thought she had won him over. She smiled but her smile quickly faded when Daemon shoved the key into the ignition and started the car. "What are you doing?!" she yelled at him. "What does it look like I'm doing? I'm getting the hell out of here." "Daemon you better turn that car off not right now. I'm not playing." "Neither am I." Katy shook her head and opened the car door. "Where do you think you're going?" Daemon spat. "I'm going back inside. You're not going to ruin my evening." "Katy Black get back in this car now." "No!" Daemon killed the ignition and forcefully jumped out of the car. He slammed the door. "You're seriously about to piss me off," Daemon said as he swung around to the passenger side. Katy didn't wait for him to catch up. She slung her purse over shoulder and kept walking. "Hey wait up! I'm not done talking to you Katy." Daemon always used her full name when he was mad at her. It didn't bother her though. His behavior was so childish right now and he didn't deserve her attention. "Katy! Don't you dare walk away from me." Katy kept walking. She didn't care. She was so flustered she didn't see the the large crack in the cement in front of her. Her shoe caught it and she went down. Hard. She screamed and knew her face was about to meet the pavement but before she could hit the cement she felt strong arms hold her up. Daemon hovered over her, concern in his eyes. She was breathing hard and had to calm herself. "You alright Kitten?" Daemon asked. Katy nodded as Daemon hoisted her up. He smoothed out her hair and rubbed her cheeks. "Jesus you about gave me a heat attack," he said. "Well you deserved it," she replied. Daemon sighed. "I was kind of a jerk back there wasn't I." "Yeah," Katy responded. Daemon placed his hand on the small of her back. "All right Kitten. Let's go finish our dinner." She couldn't help but smile. "Thank you Daemon," she said. He said nothing as they began to walk to the front doors. When Katy took a step, a sharp pain ran through her leg. She gasped in pain. "Kitten? What's wrong?" Daemon asked. Katy couldn't pinpoint the pain exactly but she had a feeling where it might be coming from. She lifted her pant leg and just as she suspected her ankle was swelling. "Well that's just great. I just twisted my ankle." Daemon crouched down and inspected her ankle. "Ouch. It looks painful. Here, allow me." He placed his hand on her swollen ankle and she could feel the healing power flow into her body. When he finished, Daemon stood up and faced Katy. "How does it feel now?" he asked. "Much better," she replied. Daemon placed his forehead on hers and smiled. "What would you do without me Kitten?" "Don't push it buddy," she jokingly responded. They finally made their way back to their table. Dawson immediately stood up. "Hey look. I'm sorry Daemon. You were right. I should have told you as soon as I found out," Dawson started. "Don't worry about man. It's fine. I'm sorry for running out on everyone like that. It was rude," Daemon said. "It's fine Daemon. Let's finish so we can go get some ice cream!" Dee squealed. Katy laughed. Dee was still a child at heart and her bubbly personality hadn't changed. Daemon and Katy finished their P'Zone and Daemon took care of the check as a way to make up for his actions. They left the pizzeria and headed to Ben and Jerry's. After spending about an half and hour their they all met up at their final destination. The Barnes and Noble parking lot was fairly empty with only a few cars spread out here and there. Katy couldn't hold her excitement. She's always loved books and she knew she always would. As they all walked inside the young cashier greeted them. "Hi Guys! Welcome to Barnes and Noble!" she exclaimed with a large smile on her face. "We've got a great sale going on today. Buy two get the third free. Select books only though. Just look on the spine of the book for the red sticker. Let me know if I can help you find anything." They all nodded and said thank you. Katy grabbed a basket and immediately headed to the fiction section. Beth perused the arts and craft department while Dee looked at fashion magazines. Daemon and Dawson walked around together and eventually settled near the nature section. "Hey, I really am sorry bro," Dawson started. "I mean it." "I said don't worry about it didn't I? Look I understand you wanted to help Adam out and everything but just you gotta let me know about these things. Honestly I'm not really mad about the cabin part. I was just angry I didn't know about it. But I shouldn't have jumped on you the way I did. That wasn't right," Daemon explained. "So can we call it a truce?" Dawson asked as he thumbed through a book about Conifer Trees. "Yeah sounds good to me," Daemon said. They both looked at each other for a split second before a blood curdling scream made them both jump. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Two hours into his prom and Adam had already gotten bored. They danced to every song imaginable from Beyonce's "Formation" to Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk." He had to control himself when Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" came on though. That song was his jam. Perhaps his favorite part was when he got to hold Kelsey close when Sam Smith's "Latch" came on. She smelt so good. Sweet Pea. That was her favorite scent and it suited her well. Adam always knew Kelsey was nearby when he got a whiff of that Sweat Pea. Right now "Hit the Quan" was playing and Adam didn't have the energy to keep dancing. He stood at the punch bowl and pored himself and Kelsey a drink. He walked back to the table they were sitting at, trying desperately to avoid all the dancing teens on the gym floor. Finally he made it back. "Here baby," he said as he held out a cup of punch to her. "Oh thank you!" she said taking the punch from him. Adam sat down next to Kelsey and took a sip of his punch. "Phew. I'm beat," he said. Kelsey frowned. "You mean you're done already? It's only 9 o' clock." Adam felt bad. He wasn't really the party type so continuous dancing really tuckered him out. He saw how disappointed she looked so he sat up straight and smiled. "What I mean is that I need a little break. That's all," he said. "Oh ok great," she said back. Ashley walked up to them, out of breath. "Omg. This prom is so lit! What are you two doing just sitting here? They're going to play "Watch Me" next." "Really? I love that song!" Kelsey gleefully responded. Adam was trying so hard not to show is dismay. He really hated that song. It was overplayed and quite frankly not that good. But Kelsey looked like she was about to jump out of her chair. Adam sighed and prepared himself for the inevitable. Just as he drank the last of his punch, he could here Silento's voice saying "You know who this is!" over the speaker. Kelsey squealed. "Come on Adam. Hurry! We're going to miss it!" She grabbed his hand and practically dragged him to the dance floor. Before he knew it, he was doing the Whip and the Nae Nae. The song wasn't too bad. His friends enjoyed it. He looked around and saw Ashley and Seth doing their best impression of the Stanky leg. Kevin and his date Pamela were just making up dances. They looked really silly but they didn't seem to care. The song eventually ended and Adam couldn't be more glad. He was breathing hard and really wanted to sit down. Kevin sauntered up to him. "Yo man you look like you bout to fall out," he said with punch in hand. "Nah man I'm fine," Adam lied. Kevin gave a look saying he didn't buy it. He shrugged. "Whatever man. It's your funeral. You can just tell my sister you're tired. She'll understand. And if she doesn't, let me know. I'll beat some sense into her." Adam looked confused. "What?" Kevin laughed. "I'm joking man." Kelsey grabbed Adam's arm. "Come on baby. Another slow song is about to start." Adam perked up at the sound of slow song. Now those he could handle. He would never miss a chance to get close to his girl. "Oh! I completely forgot." Kelsey exclaimed. She walked up to her brother and smacked him right across his cheek. Adam burst out laughing at the sight of Kevin's shocked face. Kevin held his hand to his cheek and looked as his sister. His jaw dropped. "What...the...literal...hell... Kels." She giggled. "Mom told me to smack you for not telling her you arrived safely." Kevin began to rub his cheek. "You're just looking for excuses to abuse me." "Maybe." She replied with a smirk on her face. Pamela walked up behind Kevin and tapped him on his shoulder. "I'm sorry Kev but I have to go. My grandmother isn't feeling well and I need to go check up on her while my mom is at work." Kevin nodded. "Yeah sure thing Pam. I was getting tired anyway. Let me grab my jacket and we can leave." "Ok. Thanks." Kevin turned to Adam and Kelsey. "Bye guys I gotta go. Have fun you two." "Bye Kevin. Drive safely. I'll see you when I get home." Kelsey hugged him and kissed him on the cheek. He smiled and rubbed her back. "Love you sis." "I love you too." Kevin took Pamela's hand and two left the gym. John Legend's "All of Me" started playing. Adam held out his hand. "May I have this dance?" he asked. Kelsey smiled and took his hand. He led her to the middle of the dance floor and the two began to sway back and forth to the music. He twirled her around and she giggled as he did so. She was in front of him and she leaned back into his arms. He twirled her again and she faced him. He walked a few steps away from her, still holding her hand. They circled each other. Finally he pulled her close and she rested her head on his chest. Adam didn't want this moment to end. They stayed there for a while before Adam nervously cupped and lifted her chin. She locked eyes with him and he smiled. He leaned in and she instinctively closed her eyes. Adam's lips made contact with hers sending shivers down his spine. They held the kiss for what seemed like an eternity. Finally she broke the kiss and wrapped her arms around his neck while he placed his hands on her waist. "I love you Adam Black," she said. Adam was floored. In all their three years of dating she never once said the "L" word to him. He was always afraid one day she would tell him she didn't feel the same way about him as he did about her. It was the word he was craving to hear for so long. He silently prayed this wasn't a dream while he kissed her once more. "I love you Ashley Summers," he said to her. He could see tears forming in her eyes. Heck he felt like crying too. The song ended and Meghan Trainor's "Like I'm Going to Lose You," started. He moved a strand of hair behind Kelsey's ears. She flinched at his touch, but smiled moments later. They danced and danced and didn't let each other go. Adam took a deep breath and began to rub Kelsey's hair. She had her arms wrapped around his back. He thanked his lucky stars this moment was happening. He just knew this night would be magical. Suddenly he felt nauseous. His knees got weak and he almost tumbled over. Kelsey immediately looked up at him. "Adam? Baby are you ok?" His head felt like it might explode and his mouth was so dry. He squinted his eyes and let go of Kelsey. "Adam?! Adam, Adam honey talk to me," she said panicked. Adam didn't know what was going on but he kept thinking about his mom and dad. For some odd reason they were all he could think about. His heart stop when he heard his mom scream inside his head. The Hell? he thought. Seconds later he heard his dad's strained voice. "Katy baby hold on. I'm coming!" He was so freaked out. What on earth was going on? Now he was struggling to breathe. Like all the air was being sucked out of him. He composed himself for a moment and faced Kelsey. "Baby I have to go. I'm sorry. I just have to go. Can you ride back with Ashley and Seth?" Kelsey was confused but she nodded. "Are you sick? Let me take you home. I can help..." "No," he said cutting her off. "I can't explain it. I just have to go." He didn't wait for her respond. He bolted out the door. In the corner of the gym, Ashley looked over Seth's shoulder, eyeing her cousin as he ran toward the exit.
