"It's just going to be so weird!" Tiffany folds the last box shut and looks around my bare room. "We got so used to you here."
"I'm not going far, promise." I pull out a step stool and start to gently remove the twinkle lights from around the room.
"No, leave those up, please. I like how they look, it keeps this room special."
I nod and climb down after reattaching the small amount I had done.
"So, tomorrow." Tiffany breathes out and I sit down on the edge of my bed.
"Yeah, hardly feels real."
"Still can't believe you turned down a bachelorette party, it would have been epic."
I roll my eyes at her, "you don't even remember yours, someone spiked the punch and you went around like a sleepwalker shouting 'who understands the French?' and 'where's a lollipop I want to see how many licks it takes!' I mimic her and she blushes and sits next to me.
"Yours would have been different. No drunk bride, and no loud music, just a party."
"Then invite me to the next cocktail party and we can call it my post bachelorette party." I shove her shoulder and she she shoves back, smiling.
"Deal."
I take in a deep gulp of air and fall back on the bed, clutching my pillow to my chest and staring at the ceiling.
"What's going on in your mind right now?" Tiffany looks at me and I ignore her gaze.
"How everything is changing... Ending... Everything in my life seems like it's been leading up to this one point and what if that point is tomorrow? I love Hunter but I don't want to be stuck in one place forever. I want my life to keep going."
"Leah, your life doesn't end when you get married, it's just a new start." Tiffany lays sideways next to me on the bed and stares at the cover on the bed, propped up on one hand. "When I married Sam I knew it wasn't the end, it meant a journey had come to an end and I was ready to step into the next one. Hunter is and I think you are too. It's time to push forward."
I hear the front door open and a familiar voice drift up the stairs, "anybody home?"
"Up here Maggie!" I shout and Tiffany falls flat on the bed beside me.
"This is hardly a party!" Maggie comes through the door still in her jacket and shoes.
"We're having a rest before the crazy starts." Tiffany explains, not bothering to look up.
"I see... Well then..." Maggie crosses the room and falls to the other side, straight on her back, causing Tiffany and I to shift a little.
"And we have to take the stuff down to my car before we do anything else." I remind the two of them.
"Shh." Maggie giggles, closing her eyes. "You're cutting into my rest time, I have some catching up to do."
I look over at Tiffany who grins and sees me lift the pillow slowly and carefully before bringing it down to my left and dropping it so it lands on Maggie's face.
"Hey!" She jumps in surprise as Tiffany and I spring up laughing. "That does it!" Maggie jumps up and starts attacking the both of us with the pillow, chasing us around the bare room and finally succeeding in walloping both of us. Then she tosses the pillow aside and grabs a box. "Last one downstairs is a rotten egg!" She shouts before disappearing and leaving both Tiff and I scrambling for boxes and shoes.
It takes some doing but finally everything fits in the trunk and back seat and all that's left is my duffle for the night and the bag of wedding prep for the morning, not to mention the dress that hands in my all but empty closet, all alone.
