Chapter 9: The Game Part 2

3rd Person POV:

The buzzer sounds! The game starts! Everyone is watching. Carlo and his team are going all-out.

1st Quarter.

Carlo's team had plenty of successful shots. He made 12 2-point shots, 2 free throws, and 5 3-point shots. All of which were successful. His teammates also had a good share of points.

Despite the hard-earned points and efforts, Darwin's team managed to overshoot their points, giving them a 24-point lead. But, this was only possible because they don't play fair. The referee rarely gives Darwin's team a call for any violations, While Carlo and his team are given more.

Score: 60-84, in favor of Darwin's team

2nd Quarter

The game starts to become hell for Carlo's team. Martin's foot was stepped on purpose by the opposing team, but was never given a call. He complained to the referee, but to his regret, he received a personal foul.

Carlo was really going all-out. His team kept fighting despite the bias. He made a lot of fast breaks and turnovers. He supported his team this quarter, giving them a 5-point lead. Carlo found his proper strategy. Though, the bias remains, both his coaching and playing skills emerged in the court. The audience was left in awe. Carlo, now, understood his enemies' plans. The next quarter, he plans to use it against them.

Score: 110-105, in favor of Carlo's team.

3rd Quarter

Our 4 brave idiots, now have a plan. They've noticed that the other team is focused on Carlo. They think since he's the ace player, he's the only one to be taken down. Unfortunately for Darwin, he never understood the people he called "idiots." Carlo's plan--surprise them with shots from his teammates. Carlo's not gonna take the spotlight this time. He's going to make a lot of assists.

The plan worked! Darwin's team is disoriented. Darwin was dumbfounded. Now, Carlo's team had a 10-point lead. Through JL's lay-ups, Martin's defense, and Drix's 3-point shots, they obtained the lead.

Score: 132-122, in favor of Carlo's team.

4th Quarter

The moment of truth. The final minutes have struck. Now, both teams are fired up. Defenses were tightened and offense was aggressive on both sides. Since Darwin didn't play fair, he injured Carlo on purpose. The referee called it a foul, but the damage Carlo took was heavy. His head was spinning and his mouth was bleeding. The referee called for a medic and gave Carlo first-aid.

Carlo was injured. Martin took the leadership role. The game continued even if it became 3 on 4. It seems unfair, but Darwin controls the rules. They continued with the last 5 seconds of the game.

Score was 155-156. In favor of Darwin's team. This was the crucial moment. They can't let their friend down. Darwin has the ball. He passes it, but Martin came out of nowhere and intercepted it. 3 seconds left. Martin was almost near the ring, but he was double teamed. 2 seconds left. He had to act fast. Drix was open and he was outside the 3-point line. Martin risked it. He passes it to Drix. 1 second left. With all his effort, Drix threw the ball into the ring.

As soon as the buzzer rang, the shot went in. Carlo's team won.

Final Score: 158-156, in favor of Carlo's team.

Carlo's POV:

OoO

That is my reaction. Mixed emotions ako. I don't know if iiyak ba ako or tatawa. Ewan ko ba?

Pero ang tanging nanatili--we won. :D

I can't believe it! We actually won! It was against the odds, pero nagawa namin.

Drix: Hey, Carlo? Okay ka lang? kanina ka pang tulala dyan?

Martin: Hindi pa nag-sisink in sa utak nya ang nangyari. Haha.

Man. I was so lost in my own thoughts. Nalimutan kong nasa locker room na kami. Nagpalit na kami ng damit. When we came out--

"KYAAAAAAAAAHHH!! CONGRATS SA INYO!!!"

The girls came and hugged us (in the group hug manner). Sobrang saya nila.

Bel: I can't believe na nanalo pa rin kayo. Sobrang unfair na nga nung laro eh.

Nicole: See? Told ya Darwin would never play fair.

Angie: Who cares about him? Ang mahalaga nanalo kayo! :D

JL: Haha.. Syempre magaling ako.

PAK! Binatukan sya ni Drix. Haha.

Drix: Carlo deserves most of the credit, not you.

JL: Alam ko naman eh. Nagbibiro lang ako. T-T

Then we all laughed at him.

Lianne: Congratulations, Carlo. :)

Ako: Salamat. :)

Nicole: So guys? Ano na plano? Celebration?

Yeah! I think we deserve to celebrate! :D

Carlo: Oh, sige ba!

Lahat Kami: WOOOH!

Nagcelebrate kami sa bahay namin. First time nila lahat dito. Nagcelebrate kami sa may pool area. I'm still speechless sa nangyari.

Nagkukulitan na silang lahat. Si JL nagkukunwaring nalulunod sa pool. Eto namang si Bel, mukhang gusto na nga nyang lunurin yung mokong. Haha.

Naisipan kong lumayo saglit para makapagpahangin. I won't get kicked out. I'm staying in Benson U.

"Bakit nag-iisa ka dyan?"

Napatalon ako sa gulat ng may magsalita. Pagtalikod ko si Lianne lang pala. Ang galing nya rin magconceal ng presence nya, noh? -__-

Ako: Wala lang. Hindi lang talaga ako makaget over.

Lianne: Bakit naman?

Ako: Eh kasi naman. All odds are against us. Tapos by some miracle, nanalo kami.

Lianne: Hindi mo ba napansin kung bakit kayo nanalo?

Anong sinasabi nito? I just shrugged at her question.

Lianne: You were a true leader. Hindi kagaya nung Darwin na yun, tinuturing mong mahalaga ang team mo. Kaya nga namaximize mo yung potential ng bawat isa eh.

Wow. Ako yung nasa court, pero di ko napansin yun. Napasmile na lang ako sa sinabi nya.

Ako: Lianne (looks at her intently), salamat. :)

Lianne smiled and hid her face. Umalis na sya at bumalik.

*Sigh* We won. :)
