Cora’s POV (6 years later)

Rolling over on the wide king size bed I felt the cool wind gently brush my cheek, I had left the window open again. Groggily I got up and looked around my parent’s room. It looked the same as last night…and the night before….and the night before. For nearly two weeks they haven’t been home, occasionally dad would stop by to get some spare clothes, but he would go back to the hospital quickly.

Mom’s sickness became really serious a year ago and she was admitted to the pack doctor’s hospital, I barely got to see her and dad. When I would go visit mom at the hospital she would look deadly pale and have all these machines hooked up to her. Just seeing her like that made me hate going to the hospital, I would still visit from time to time, but it scared me too much, Dad refused to leave from her side and so basically they were living at the hospital from now on. They would call from time to time to see if I was alright being at home and by now I was already used to it.

Getting up slowly I looked at the clock; I had just enough time to shower and go get an apple probably. Forcing myself to close the window I walk down the hall to my bathroom, turning the knob, the warm water rained down loudly. Quickly taking off my baggy shirt and Nike shorts I stepped into the water and felt the water wash away all the sweat and sleepiness away from me. My wolf purred, enjoying the warm sensation.

I had finally gotten my wolf when I turned fifteen. She was beautiful, even more beautiful than Aishling’s in my opinion; she was smoky black wolf with a white underbelly. I was most proud of the fact that my wolf was a lot bigger than the she-wolfs in the pack. Aishling hated that the most about my wolf, it was almost twice as big as hers.

Finishing my shower quickly I stepped out and wrapped my thin body with a fluffy teal towel. I stared at my reflection in the mirror, since I had gotten my wolf my eyes had changed colors to match my wolf, it was a beautiful ocean blue so different from my old dark eyes. Smiling I patted my dark hair dry with another towel, quickly brushed my teeth, and walked down the hall to my room.

All along the green walls it was covered with paintings I had either drawn or bought at the art supply store. I especially loved a Chinese painting of a gray wolf lying on the grass. It was amazing how the artist had gotten all the details of the wolf perfectly with just a brush and black ink. It was like my inspiration.

Inhaling deeply I put on a black sports bra and slipped into a black v neck and white track shorts. Grabbing my bag sitting on my desk I ran downstairs without trying to trip from putting on my socks.

Skidding across the kitchen tile I grabbed a bright red apple from the table and opened the back door to run into someone’s with a very hard chest. Nearly falling back I felt large hands grab my arms and pull me back to my feet. “You’re so clumsy Cora,” The light brown haired guy grinned. He was tall and brawny, his pale orange eyes teased as he still held onto my hand.

Pushing him away I let out a light growl, “Cut it out Brian, I’m gonna be late for training if you keep standing in my way and not let go of my hand.”

“I know that’s why I came to get you. Did you sleep late again?” he asked, as I put on my shoes and walked out onto the back porch.

Shaking my head I pointed at my damp hair, “If you hadn’t noticed I took a shower.” Brian smacked me gently on the forehead and raced a safe distance away from my punches. Smiling I sped up to catch up to him.
