**Sorry for the delay! But I have my reasons. 1) My grandpa being the in hospital 2) School coming up 3) My computer was having a weird breakdown or something so everytime I was on it like 10 minutes in, it would automatically shut down. I got it fixed though! Again sorry and to make it up I'll upload a few chapters this week :)

Chapter 14

The rest of dinner proceeded without any stupid remarks from Aishling. Food was good, and though Ramón was one of us, I was still surprised when he brought out wolf size portions for us. I had a full salmon placed in front of me, and the guys all had what seemed a mammoth size cut of their steaks. Even Aishling – who ordered a salad- got a mountain of veggies.

Dinner was quiet, a few pack talks, Aishling tried to bring up the wedding but no one seemed interested enough that the conversation wouldn’t carry out any longer than a question or two.

Ramón stopped every once in a while to check in, he was polite and considerate despite Carter’s prodding for any stories – which he managed to avoid revealing.

Dinner ended strangely very quietly. Elliot handed Ramón a card before he even got to see the check. He shrugged it off without any second thought. Sometimes I forgot how Alpha’s could be loaded, even Uncle Jake had connections to various companies that assured him a constant pool of money.

Then it got me thinking on my own meager life. Dad – when not doing patrols or with mom – worked down at a cleaning service company. Many of our wolves had normally working jobs, those that didn’t usually had money passed down from their grandparents. I even had a job working as an art teacher for a local community center. Though I was now considered to be on break for family reasons, no one at the center knew I was somewhere hundreds of miles away to guard a major pain in the ass.

With Ramón returning with the card, everyone took it as a sign to leave and got up quickly. Brian hung to my side and walked me out the door before the others could reach the golden handles.

The dusk air hit my skin with a blast of cool humid air. “Dang,” I rolled my shoulder back and stretched, “It feels so nice,”

“I prefer the salty air back home.” Carter sniffed from behind. “I guess it’s a perk for being the only pack near the ocean.”

I shrugged, “Everyone has preferences.”

“How does it feel to go to a beach?” Evan asked curiosity burning in his violet eyes, “The closest thing to a beach we’ve got is a lake a few miles out deeper into our territory.”

“You’ve never been to the beach?” Carter scoffed.

“We rarely leave the pack, and when we do it’s nothing close to the beach.” Chris pointed out.

“Basically the same? The water is salty though, and the waves are rougher occasionally, and the sand is finer. Plus its just water as far as the eye can see.” Carter explained, looking proud with himself as he chatted on. Evan hung by him in a daze. I figured he was trying to imagine what the beach looked like.

With the two occupied, I turned my head over just as Elliot spoke, “We should head back and get the Lune Bay wolves on their way out. That way we don’t have to worry about any skin-walker going after them, and we can get our wolves back on patrol.”

Elliot took a moment to see how Brian would take this suggestion. “I’ll warn my wolves. Or do you want to Cora? I feel like I’m the only one really telling them what to do.” Brian asked.

I shook my head, “No one will really listen to me if I’m the one to tell them. You do it.”

“Fine,” Brian took a moment to relay the message before talking again, “They’re ready to go.”
