Chapter 8
Though we hadn't slept with an alarm set up, both our wolves had managed to wake us up just in time.
I could hear deep snarls coming from a lump of blankets that was Brian, "I'm awake..." he groaned. I figured he was too tired to have even realized he wasn't even talking with his wolf.
Pushing the blankets off of me, I cringed at the cold air. "Coooold," my teeth chattered as I scrambled to get the blanket back up.
My eyes darted over to the clock on the wall. 8:42 a.m. "Brian..." I mumbled.
He groaned but made no attempt to get up. "Brian..." I tried again.
"10 more minutes..." Brian grumbled rolling over.
Forcing myself up, I managed to go to one of my duffel and pull out a dark blue wind breaker. Zipping it up, I got myself a glass of water and chugged. Shivering as I felt the water enter my body.
"Brian what time do we have to get to the pack house?" I croaked.
"9..." he whispered.
"Do you want breakfast or no?"
"Please..."
I sighed, "Then get up or we'll be late!"
I figured he would get up on his own, if not he'd just miss the food. Digging out my toothbrush, I made it to the bathroom down the hall. I washed my face in warm water and thoroughly scrubbed my teeth. In the middle of doing my business, I heard Brian get him and start looking for his toothbrush.
By the time I made it back to the kitchen, Brian had managed to fall asleep on the kitchen counter top. Slapping him hard on the back, I smirked as he nearly toppled off his chair. "Bathrooms all yours."
He mumbled his thanks and went to get himself fixed up. I managed to get three chocolate cranberry muffins out of the fridge and two water bottles just as Brian made it out. He looked refreshed after washing his face. Beaming, he grabbed the two muffins while I took the one.
For a moment silence filled the house as we both focused on eating. By the time I had scraped off all the crumbs off the counter top, it was almost 5 minutes before 9. With our wolf speed, we managed to get all the blankets and pillows cleared in three minutes and out the door in the next two.
"How'd you sleep?" I asked as we went down the forest trail. I rolled the remains of my muffin in my hand.
"Alright I guess? I kept getting all these mind links from these patrols, saying there were rogues in the area and that we'll have to delay the departure."
"Oh?"
"But then another patrol said they got it all in control so I figured we'd just go normal time."
"That's great I guess?"
"Yup. I don't understand why the rogues will come here though. No offense, but there's nothing here." Brian said before taking a large bite of his last muffin.
I nibbled on the edge of mine, "Maybe the rogues miss pack lives a bit and just want to come and see how things are?"
"If they miss the pack life, they'd come back and stay in a pack. But seeing as they don't, I figure that's not it."
"Hey, Cora! Brian!" Carter's voice suddenly broke into our minds.
"What?" Brian answered him annoyed.
"Not trying to rush you guys or anything but the future bridezilla here is freaking out." Carter warned.
"We'll be there soon." I hastily replied.
