Elliot POV
"How long are you going to be in bed?" Chris demanded, his voice had a twinge of annoyance and it made me tense up. Was that how someone talked to their Alpha?
I slowly pulled myself up and looked behind me. I groaned loudly before pulling the covers over my head. Chris stood by the door with his arms crossed looking irritated. Evan stood by him though he looked more confused than anything else.
The both of them were dressed and ready for the day's work. I fought back the urge to punch myself in the face. Here I was their Alpha, being the last to be prepared.
"What time is it?" I moaned as I got to my feet. My joints cracked as I did a few stretches to loosen up my tense body. When I rubbed my eyes, I was slightly surprised to find them swollen and abnormally warmer than the normal temperature.
I pushed all thoughts aside as I crossed the room over to my closet and yanked down a gray shirt from a hanger. I slipped into it while Chris answered me, "A few minutes passed noon." He huffed, "We're already way behind schedule."
I just nodded before going back to the bed. It creaked under my weight then remained silent. I sat - hunched, with my elbows resting on my knees as I rubbed my hands together.
It was pretty cold.
Sniffing the air, I caught the faint smell of pine and ice. A North wind was coming down fast and pretty suddenly. My mind wandered as Chris and Evan observed my current state.
I probably looked a mess.
For whatever reason I couldn't go to sleep last night. It was more frustrating than anything. Today was going to be busy and I needed to rest up, but now, I felt more tired than I had felt before going to bed.
Sighing, I looked up at my Beta and Gamma. "Do you have anything to say?"
Evan was the first to speak, "You look like hell ran you over."
"Thanks." I grumbled. Forcing myself up off the bed, I left the room and quickly went downstairs to the kitchen. Evan and Chris quickly followed suit.
They took their spots at the tall stools pressed up against the counter top. They were quiet. I shrugged it off without much thought before draining a cold water bottle from the fridge.
The atmosphere of the room was uncomfortable and it agitated my wolf. He snapped just as I did, "Do you have something on your minds?"
The two remained stoic though they snuck a glance at each other. "How are you feeling?" Chris asked.
"What do you mean?" I pulled out another bottle and this time pressed up to my eyes. It helped a bit.
"You've been out of it since the Summit." Evan explained, "What is it? Your mate? The treaty?"
I frowned. Only Chris and Evan knew about me finding my mate. Other than that, most people just thought I was in a bad mood from the Summit meeting. Dropping the bottle from my eyes, I stared at them intently.
Evan shifted in his seat and ruffled his hair, "Hey! Chris and I are just curious."
"We're braiding each other's hair and gossiping about our mates now like little 11 year old she-pups?" I scoffed.
Chris growled lightly, "As your Beta and your best friend - one of your best friend - I think you're being stupid right now."
"Should I have just taken her against her will?" I said harshly.
"Not that," Chris rolled his eyes, "This whole treaty thing. It sucks balls! You should have denied it the moment your dad brought it up."
I couldn't help but agree. I wanted nothing more than to break it up now. Call quits on it all - go find my mate - and bring her back to the pack and to my side. But the thing was, I would have if I could
