I closed my eyes and slept relaxed and happy. Little did I know, there was a lot of stress and unhappiness coming my way.

Birds were chirping, light was peeping in through the cracks in the blinds. I turned on my side and tried to close my eyes again, hoping I'd fall back asleep until I was interrupted by the loud antics of my family downstairs. My mother was calling me down for breakfast and my father was taking a business call, frustratedly speaking with the client on the opposite end of the line.
I had been home for a week now and being woken up the same way was unnerving but also comforting in a familiar way. I was planning on going to visit all the old spots I loved to go to when I was here.
I sat down and ate breakfast, telling my parents I was going to walk around for a bit and left. It was a sunny day, perfect weather to go to the park. I made my way to it and sat down on a bench that overlooked the whole park. There were families on picnics, couples strolling through the fields, dogs playing fetch with their owners, everyone was caught up in their own lives, busy just floating by. No one seemed to have a care in the world in that moment and it was comforting to be on a level of happiness with everyone around me.
I had been here for an hour already and I was spending my time watching two squirrels run after each other when my phone began to buzz. I looked down and saw Luke was calling.
"Good morning Luke." I smiled.
"Hey Ava, I was just wondering if you could turn around."
"What?" I was caught off guard by his question but turned around.
There he was. Standing right there a few feet away. He was here. I ran to him and hugged him. He stumbled back, laughing, "Woah there, careful." He smiled, steadying us. I was still in his arms, not wanting to let go. I buried my face into his chest and smiled taking in his familiar smell of cologne and coffee. He was here and I couldn't be happier. I pulled back to look at his face, "What are you doing here?" I was so happy.
"I was in the neighborhood and I thought I'd stop by." He joked, enjoying the amount of pain I was in. I was eager to know and Luke was trying to annoy me. I hit his chest, "Stop torturing me and just tell me!"
"I wanted to come see you and possibly stay with you for the last week of our break." He had a hesitant smile, "Is that okay?" I held his hand, "Of course it is. Now come on and walk with me." He smiled, "My pleasure m'lady." He pretended to tip a hat.

We came back home and I opened the door. I told Luke to sit on the couch while I go find my mother. I walked up stairs and found her in her room reading. "Mom I have someone that I'd like you to meet downstairs." I blushed and laughed from excitement and nervousness. She followed me down the stairs "Ava, who's this?"
Luke stood up with a nervous smile, "Hello Mrs. Brooks, I'm Luke Hemmings. It's nice to meet you." He was nervous, anyone could tell he was nervous. My mother had broke this bad boys confidence. She had no facial expression for a minute, she just studied his demeanor. After a period of silence she broke into a smile, "Nice to meet you Luke, Ava's told me about you. Would you like to stay for dinner?"
This was her way of scheduling an interrogation. She'd get him where he can't leave and then ask him multiple questions in rapid fire to make sure he was "good enough for her daughter".
"Yes, I would like that. Thank you Mrs. Brooks." Luke smiled nervously. "Alright, go show him your room Ava, I'll call you when dinner's ready." We went up to my room and he immediately gaped in awe. My room was rather clean but the walls were covered with art and band posters. What can I say? I value art and music.
He walked around my room, picking things up and inspecting them then, setting them back down and moving on to something else. He was so interested in everything that he didn't hear me say his name. "Luke!" I yelled after two more times of him not hearing me. He jumped and turned around, "I like your room. It's very you." He smirked.
"Thanks, dinners ready." I motioned towards my door. We walked down the stairs, talking about recent album releases and artists. We sat at the table still laughing then my mother set our plates of pasta in front of us and sat down. My favorite, Italian food.
"So Luke, tell me about your plans after college."
