Chapter XIX: Graduation and the Real World

It was the end of senior year. Everyone had turned in their last papers, finished up portfolios and received their report cards.

I was getting ready for the graduation ceremony in my dorm with Charlotte.

"I can't believe it. It's been four years, it's felt like one." I said.

"Right?! It's so crazy how fast time goes by. I just want you to know, Ava, that I'll always be your best friend and you'll always be mine. You can come over anytime, the door's always open for you." Charlotte smiled and gave me a hug.

I held her tight and laughed, "I'll always love you Char. You'll always be my favorite roomie and my best friend. No matter what happens."

"Aww, don't make me cry! I just did my eyeliner and it took me ten minutes to get them even!" She laughed.

"Let me do your makeup! I can do that while you tell me about your anniversary date with Luke." She winked.

"Okay fine, why not?" I shrugged and we laughed and I told her the whole story, with detail and she would occasionally shout with excitement saying "It's all so cute!"

There was a knock at the door and in came Luke, Calum, Michael, and Ashton. "Hey, girls! How's it going?"

"Hi guys! We're ready!" Charlotte answered.

Luke looked at me and I looked at him. He was speechless.
"Luke stop drooling over Ava and say something." Michael said and Calum laughed.

"You look amazing, Brooks." He smiled and kissed my cheek while he hugged me. "You don't look so bad yourself, Hemmings."

We took pictures and talked for about an hour.

"Alright guys it's time to go to the hall." Ashton said with his arm around Charlotte.

We walked out of my dorm and Calum yelled "Who's ready to graduate?!" And we all cheered.

We entered the hall, got our caps and gowns and sat down in the seats given to us. We were situated in alphabetical order. After an hour of waiting, talking with the people next to us, the head of the university walked up to the podium.

"Hello, students, parents, professors. Today we're here to say goodbye to our seniors and let them embark on their new journey into the real world. Thank you all for coming, we shall begin shortly."

After the announcement they began calling names until they got to mine.
"Ava Brooks." I got up to receive my diploma and shake the dean's hand. Charlotte and the boys were cheering loudly and I smiled. I got of stage and waited for the next persons name to be called. Name after name until "Michael Clifford" was heard.

After each name the same until "Luke Hemmings..." "...Calum Hood" "Ashton Irwin..." "Charlotte McHanning..."
After everyones names were called, the dean announced.

"Everyone stand up, please. Bring your tassel from the right to the left."

Everyone moved their tassels and the dean spoke, "Congratulations, graduates of New York University."

Everyone cheered and threw their caps up into the air. It was a magical moment.

I looked at Luke and he looked at me.
"We did it, Brooks."
"We sure did, Hemmings."
He smiled and pulled me into a kiss. It was a scene I'll never forget. He pulled away and looked down at me.

"I love you, Ava Brooks."
"I love you, Luke Hemmings."

This is the last chapter and then I have an epilogue to show how everything went after everyone started the new chapter in their lives. -Ana♡
