Chapter 23

Saving Lazlo

If Ailia thought her earlier experience was bad then this was 100 times worse. Gamma radiation, Ailia would have thought if she could have, that's what turned Bruce Banner green. Right then, however, all that she could manage was, why does my brain feel like soup?

The Doctor was most likely thinking, gah this hurts, along with, why does this stupid girl always get in trouble.

Their screams were ripped away from their throats by wind or the terrible electricity coursing through them Ailia didn't know, or care.

Then, it stopped, and the Doctor looked up, his head moving ever so slightly to see the girl clutching on for dear life to the mast before he began to slip.

"Doc," she croacked, attempting to move to help him.

He didn't answer, his eyes slipping shut, and his grasp failing.

"Doctor," She lunged forward, not caring about the impossibility of what just happened, instead opting for grabing onto the Doctor's arm and worming her way around the mast. Painstakingly moving him down to the concrete below.

"Doctor. Doctor," Martha came running out, holding a red shoe, "Look what we found half way down. You're getting careless."

Ailia hummed in agreement and Martha stared at her.

"I know," she rasped, touching her halo of hair, "My hair's an absolute mess."

"Oh, my head," the Doctor groaned, sitting up.

"Hiya," Martha said, releaved.

"Hey there, Doc," Ailia supported his weight.

"Hi. You survived then," the Doctor greeted, most likely talking to Ailia, but Martha answered in her place.

"So did you. Just about. I can't help noticing... There's Dalekanium still attached," Martha points.

Ailia appeared to realise something at the same time the Doctor did, though they were thinking different things for sure.

"Henry," she muttered under her breath, jumping up, running across the space, and quickly manuvering down the structure.

She saw his body amongst the bodies of the rest of the pig slaves, the girl knelt down beside it.

"Hey," she breathed when she felt a shallow heartbeat under her hand.

The pig man didn't answer, only touched her hand, "Not..."

"No, Henry. You don't have to say anythin'. We'll patch you up, alright?" Ailia messed with his wounds.

"Not...your...fault," Henry finished.

"What do you mean? Henry? Henry," she begged, "Come on, Henry. It'll be fine."

But his heart had already stilled, his last breath released.

The girl wrapped the creature in a hug, closing his eyelids, "Good night." She finished sadly, and the world came rushing back in.

Martha, Frank and the Doctor were just getting to the window, though, they might have been there a moment longer.

Tallulah was lifting up a fallen Lazlo, helping him to stand despite his attempts to not seem weak.

And herself, kneeling next to the body of a pigman.

Ailia stood up, taking a hair band from her wrist and pulling her hair back, wiping some soot from her face.

"The Daleks will have gone straight to a war footing. They'll be using the sewers, spreading their soldiers out underneath Manhattan," the Doctor informed, immediately taking action.
