Once Becky was back in her Math class, she started focussing on what the teacher thought, rather than thinking about magic or Silvia or mom or anything else. She started noting the Math sums Mr Cabello was dictating. She was a absorbed in a certain complicated sum, when she heard a hissing sound.
'Hiss! Hey, hiss!'
Becky turned around. It was Harvey Knocker.
'Hey, listen. You know who poured...'
Becky heard to him with tepidest interest. As if I cared?, she thought.
All he was trying to explain was that he was the one who poured water in the classroom, so that someone would trip over and entertain the others. Well, Becky knew that it was not him.
Becky wanted to roll her eyes so badly. 'Come on! I've got other problems. See!' she groaned pointing at her notebook, which bore her world's worst math problem.'
'Well, Okaaay!' he muttered, and turned to Will Sober. Will looked horrified as he heard Harvey rush over his words about the trap, which was not his, anyway. Usually, Will was not a type of person who likes to play pranks on others. He was more like a studious boy who can be found in the library at any time (except during classes). He wore horn-rimmed zoom-y spectacles over his dark beady eyes.
But Harvey was way too loud, making Becky read the third line of the problem over and over again. 'Harvey Knocker. Go to hell!' She muttered under her breath, and flicked her finger. A silver strap of tape appeared on stupid Harvey's mouth. His eyes widened. Will was gaping at Harvey, stunned. After a few seconds of astonishment, Harvey tried pull out the tape, but it was useless. Becky's powers were stronger.
The students around him were all giggling hard.
Becky finally completed the math problem a few seconds before the bell rang. She submitted her notebook to the teacher, and grabbed her books to leave. Before she stepped out, she swirled around and pointed her finger at Harvey's face. Flick! The tape was gone.
Good work, she appreciated herself, smiling lightly.
'What's that?' Kimberly asked, as they met after lunch. She was pointing at Becky's dress. Becky didn't realize what her friend was saying for a moment. But the force of the question hit her soon.
'Oh, this? Er-I bought it yesterday...Nice?' is what Becky could get out of her mouth, as she ran her hand down her sleeve.
'Yeah, that's good.'
'Did you see Silvia?'
'Silvia? Don't say she's back. I'd been wishing since yesterday that she never comes back.' Kim said hopefully.
'She's back!'
'Ouh! Gar-aite!' Kim smirked, wrinkling her nose.
'What?' Becky asked for the third time.
Kimberly rolled her eyes. 'WHY DID YOU HELP SILVIA? ARE YOU CRAZY?' she asked as loud as she could.
Becky figured that another 'What?' would do no good. 'I saw her struggling to get out. I couldn't resist helping her out.' They were actually sitting in the canteen, when school was done, discussing why Silvia was still alive. The news that Silvia was back had spread sooner than Becky thought it would. Which clearly means, everyone was filled with the fact that it was Becky who saved poor old Silvia.
'First of all, why did you go to the Chemistry lab when you didn't even have Chemistry class? Huh?'
'Er-I just left my funnels there. So I...' Becky trailed off as Kimberly interrupted.
'Lie! You lost all your funnels already. You told me that you were begging your mom to get you some.'
'Did I?' Becky thought she could have tried to suppress her friend with a better excuse.
Kimberly was sending daggers through her eyes at Becky.
Becky can't stand these glares of Kim anymore.
'Look! Kim!' she started, hoping it would work. She took a deep breath, and cleared her throat twice. Her throat sounded like a snoring gorilla. 'I just went into the lab, saw someone struggling to get out of a pit-like-thing in the middle of the room. So, I just rushed to help. I don't care if it was Silvia, or a donkey, or a monkey, or whatever.' She looked into Kim's hazel eyes. They have softened a lot, but still anger floated in them. After a few minutes of glaring at Becky, Kim stood up and left.
Becky sat there sadly, watching her friend get out of the canteen, when Will Sober entered, struggling with half a dozen books in his hands. He passed by Becky, and suddenly dropped all his books miserably. Becky went to help, right away.
But once she sank beside Will to help, she saw an old book torn horribly. She looked up at Will, whose eyes were filled with horror, under his spectacles.
'Are they from the library?' Becky asked him, pointing at the books. He nodded, still horrified. Becky felt sorry for him. He's sure going to get punished, if he returned this dusty, old book like this.
But Becky had something that no one else had. Magic! But she didn't know if she should use it before Will. Anyway, she's decided not to tell about her powers to anyone.
'Will, Can I take this book with me, if you don't mind? I think I can make it look better with some mag-' she stopped dead. Then started again,'Er-with some tape or something. Can I?'
Will nodded. So, Becky slipped the fat book, which read Vampires on the top. The very thought of Will standing with a pack of Vampires brought a smile in Becky's face.
'Goodbye, Will!' Becky threw a warm smile on her face and left.
