TRANQUIL. Untroubled. Rapt. Jocund.
I opened my eyes to a sight that made me smile like a loon. Iris; her head resting on her hand with her elbow propped up on the pillow, her eyes trained on me with a small smile playing on her lips.
"Fourth time this week." She said, rubbing my arms with a relieved expression. Getting everything out in the open had weakened the ghosts of my past and I knew with her in my arms, falling asleep would be easier than it ever was. I didn't have to look under my bed for monsters anymore. There were no more skeletons in the closet.
"I think I'm getting the hang of sleeping." I joked.
"Good morning." I pecked her cheek and stood up to stretch. Her eyes followed my rising t-shirt that gave a view of my taut abdomen and I laughed as she stared with a raised eyebrow; like she was analyzing a report of sorts.
I reached behind my back and removed it off completely, making her words die on her lips again.
"If your reaction doesn't change anytime soon, I might start using it against you."
"Like you don't already." She hid her face in the pillows and I chuckled. I knew she was referring to last night when I got her to choose a romance movie for the shirtless cuddle perks.
"I don't know how boys can make removing t-shirts so..." She was now peaking carefully from under the duvet.
"Boys? Nah, babe, it's just me." She laughed and hit me with a pillow. These months had been spent mostly in her room since the college beds didn't give us young boys the joys of spooning. The year was coming to an end, and I couldn't believe we had known each other for so long.

The bathroom door opened to reveal a blushing Iris who mumbled along the lines of "need to brush", "won't look" and "can I". The shower curtains hardly let anything show so I didn't mind. Who was I kidding? If they did, it'd be much more fun.
I could see her blurred figure bend over to gargle and I knew she would fuss if she saw me while I was stark naked.
"Iris, love, pass me the towel." I could bet she knew I was smirking. She hesitated for a while but then held the towel close to the curtain. I held onto the towel from the other end and tugged at it, bringing her dangerously close to me.
"What do we have for breakfast?" I smirked down at her. She stared doe-eyed at me, opening and closing her mouth like a fish out of water. I knew she was trying really hard to look only into my eyes and nowhere else, but who could blame the girl? I doubted she had ever seen a boy naked before.
Just to mess around with her (blame the playful mood), I moved the curtain to step out of the shower enclosure. She stared at my now-uncovered body, mortified, for over ten seconds whilst I carefully watched her and then she shrieked like she had seen a monster. I laughed, throwing my head back and tied the towel around my body.

After throwing on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt that read "Ask me about my T-rex", I wandered in the direction of the kitchen, smelling breakfast.
I leaned against the counter as she hummed the tune to a Lewis Watson song while beating eggs, reaching to tuck a stray strand behind her ear every once in a while. Lost in her world, she tried to reach for the sugar jar that was kept overhead by standing on her toes and if I had thought she couldn't get more adorable before, she just did.
I stood behind her, pressing her against the cold counter and reached for the jar. Before she could thank me, I kissed the dip between her shoulder and neck and held her close to me.
"I need to cook." She tried wriggling out of my hold, but stopped as soon as she felt the hardness that pushed against her, realising she had only made matters worse. I walked towards the fridge to drink some cold water and noticed she was standing in the same place as before. I looked at her, expecting an answer when she replied cryptically.
"I've seen and felt your T-rex today. You're onto something." I chortled, spitting water onto the floor and she laughed too.

"Can we go into town today?" she asked after we'd had breakfast. As we were only lounging in the living room, I thought maybe we could go out, maybe to the beach.
"Sure, beach day?"
"Yup." she smiled cheerily.
Today had been a good day so far. I knew it was stupid to go to the beach when it was so chilly outside, but there was a spot at the beach we'd found a few months ago. It was cozy and gave a serene view of waters.
Maybe I would kiss her and tell her how much she means to me, maybe I would make her a pendant from a shell that would feel her every heartbeat, maybe I would just hold her and close my eyes. I wanted her to know how much she meant to me, how much I loved her, because in the pit of my stomach, I had an impending sense of loss.
