So maybe Pete wasn't being 100% honest when he said that he had to go do something for his mom. He just freaked out. He wasn't really good at talking to girls. They never really talked to him and if they did it was because they thought he was one of them.
So Pete was certain that if he kept talking he'd say something wrong and mess everything up.

Okay so maybe his logic wasn't the greatest but it made sense to Pete and that was good enough for him.

He was beginning to regret his decision, though. Mikey was a pretty cool girl and he just stopped talking to her for no reason. Real smooth, Pete.

But it's not like they'd never talk again. She said that she wanted to keep talking to him later. But how soon was later? Like later today? This week? Or was "later" just girl code for never?

Dang it, Pete! You just ruined any chance you had with her.

Pete couldn't let that happen, though. He'd message her later that day at...6:30. Seemed reasonable.

Pete was surprised when he saw that he had another notification, especially when he found out it was from Mikey. She sent him a message that said:

I know you won't get this for a while but do you have a kik? That would make talking a lot easier on my part. k bye

Pete giggled as he read it. This girl was pretty freaking adorable.

He began typing out a response only to remember how he "was busy." He was really beginning to regret his previous lie. How did he ever think it was a good idea?

He typed out the response anyway and then turned his phone off. He would send that 6:30. Hopefully he wouldn't mess things up this time...
