Alternate Universe
I spin in my chair and look at the clock. According to Mr. Paper, I have two minutes until I get off of work. Finally. Today has been very interesting. I broke the printer. I bit one of my co-worker's arms. I also broke all of my pencils. And I broke... nevermind. You get the point. I broke and bit lots of things.
Mr. Paper is very suspicious of me. He said I'm acting different. I wonder why... It's not like I'm from a different world or anything. I'm not used to acting so mature like everyone here expect me to be. I've never had a proffesional job like this. Plus, in One Direction, me being mature was very rare. Being mature is Daddy Direction's job. Speaking of One Direction, back on my world, is time passing by... without me? Am I missing on my world? Did I just dissapear from my world and appear on this world?
That is a scary thought... but there is nothing I can do about it anyway. What if I go to sleep tonight and wake up in my world? That would be- Yay! It's time to leave! I jump from my chair and run out the door of the office in a hurry.
"Bye, everyone! Goodbye! Have a wonderful day! All of you!" I yell with arms outstretched, running down the hall.
I hate this place. Mr. Paper watches as I skip into the lobby area and out of the main entrance with a huge smile.
"Don't worry! I'm okay!" I say as the door closes.
I laugh. I amuse myself. I open the door to the car and hop inside. Harry's already back from school by now. It's 4:00. I turn on the radio and Rihanna's song "Diamonds" is playing. So, on this world, the music is the same I'm guessing. Except One Direction obviously. But I am wondering about the others.
How old are the rest of them? Do they exist on this world? Where are they? Also, what about my family? Elenour? Lots of questions. I pull up to the house and step inside to hear... singing?
Not just one voice... but two. I take off my coat and hang it on the coat rack before slowly making my way to the kitchen where I hear the singing. The child singing is obviously Harry. Then there is also another voice. A boy's. A very familiar one. Of course... I should have realized this sooner! I run to the door of the kitchen and peer inside excitedly at the two boys. Harry is singing into a spatula like it's a microphone, dancing around, while the other boy stands at the stove cooking something in a pot and singing along with Harry. They sing "Car Wash" like they've been rehearsing it a lot. I smile wider at the sight.
"Workin' at the car wash! Oh, whoa! Yeah Yeah Yeah! At the car wash! Yeah! Oooh yeah!" They sing not noticing I'm standing here.
The older boy turns to Harry and spins him. Harry laughs and dances around crazy some more as the older boy sings. Just being an average six year old. And the older boy, who I've known for more than two years now, looks about 16. So young and looks a lot different with his long hair that I'm used to seeing in a quiff. The older boy bends down next to Harry and pinches one of Harry's cheeks, smiling.
"This is how I like to see you- happy. I'm sorry that Mr. Tomlinson is mean to you. But, you have me, little man," he says to Harry.
"Don't be silly, babysitter," Harry says back, making me let out a small laugh. "Mr. Tomlinson changed."
"What do you mean?"
"This morning, he didn't remember anything. He said he was from another world and he was in a boyband. And then, he promised me that he'd be nicer to me than "old him" and that I could call him Louis."
The older boy blinks and stares at Harry blank faced.
"Either you have a huge imagination," says the older boy,"or Mr. Tomlinson is going nuts."
"Louis," corrected Harry.
"Right," the older boys says, confused.
He takes the spatula from Harry as he stands and turns back to what he was cooking.
"Niall, It's true," I say stepping into the kitchen.
The older boy turns to me, startled. His confused blue eyes look into mine.
"It sounds crazy, but it's true," I continue.
"That's insane," Niall says shaking his head. "No way. I've never heard of someone being from from another world. Are you an alien or something?"
He mocks me and rolls his eyes.
"Or something," I say. "You don't understand."
I sit at the kitchen table and sigh. Harry pulls out a chair and climbs onto it. He looks up at me with happy eyes.
"You see... I fell asleep in a hotel in a completely different world and woke up here. I lived in a house bigger than this one, I was in a boyband, had no children, traveled all over the world... and..."
I grab Niall's arm and pull him into the livingroom and say,"And on the other world, Harry was in my boyband and so were you. You were both 19 and crazy. But now, I know I'm in an alternate universe because Harry is six and you're 16," I say fastly.
He looks at me like I'm crazy and shakes his head.
"You still sound like a major psycho."
"Oh yeah? Well if you aren't as different on this world as my old one, then I know something about you that no one else does."
"Like what?"
"You sleep with a teddy bear that you've had since you were 10."
Niall's eyes get wide and he backs away from me.
"I also know that your favorite place to eat is Nandos, you're afraid of Nicki Minaj, and you wish "unimoosacornacows", the mythical creature you made up, were real."
His mouth gapes open in surprise.
"I've never told you any of those things. In fact, you never talk to me. How did you-?"
"Like I said, I knew you on a different world. We were best friends. Like brothers."
"That's nuts."
"Come on, Niall! You have to believe me!" I beg.
He looks at me with wide eyes and nods. This is the most freaked out I think I've ever seen Niall. I can't blame him.
"I-I think I do b-believe you," he studders.
"Really?" I ask grinning.
He nods.
"LOUIS! NIALL! CAN WE EAT NOW?" Harry yells from the kitchen.
I laugh while Niall was still freaked out too much to. We both walked into the kitchen to see Harry smiling at the table with spoons, napkins, and bowls set out on the table. Niall walks over to the pot while I sit next to Harry.
"Did you set the table?" I ask.
Harry nods proudly.
"Are you eating with us?" Harry asks me as Niall comes over and pours soup into the bowls.
"Yeah. Of course. Why wouldn't I?"
"You never did before... so I didn't know if this you would want to either."
I smile and take his small hand in mine.
"Of course I'm going to eat with you. We're a family. And that's what families do."
Niall sets down three glasses of milk and smiles big at me, but not quite as big as Harry. Harry's smile is uncomparable. His eyes are filled with so much joy. His cheeks are a light pink. Those dimples showing... But that smile was probably the biggest smile he's smiled in a long time. All because of three words that were so simple, yet meant so much to him.
We're a family.
