After lunch, school dragged on. Classes felt like time was purposely moving slower than usual and the teachers were never going to shut up. Once the final bell rang, I jumped out of my seat, my jumpiness was getting to me.

It's probably because of Courtney, my wolf mentions.

Courtney isn't in any of my classes, but I ran into her in the hall this morning after I found her wandering around, peeking into other classes. My wolf howled and I knew she was my mate from that moment. I walked up beside her and tried not to claim her right there, starting conversation with her and found out that she was actually friends with Mika. We spoke about Mika for a few minutes but I didn't want to talk about my brother's mate, I wanted to get to know my mate-- talking also prevents my wolf from surfacing.

We talked about basic stuff but there was only one question I wanted to know, did she have some human boyfriend. I didn't know how to ask, but as if she could read my mind, she created an opening. You

We were heading to a bodega down the street from school because Courts wanted a bag of chips before she headed to work. Walking side by side, occasionally brushing each other but not feeling awkward about it, talking:

"So, how was your old school? Your old friends...or your girlfriend?" Courts asked, attempting to not sound noisy or jealous.

I crack a smile but keep my head down, so she wouldn't see, "Lincoln was good. I mean, my whole family went to school there, so I was either in class with my cousins or their significant other. I didn't leave anyone special behind, besides my cousin Ajay, he's the one planning the party, but other than that, no girlfriend."

"Oh," Courts says while releasing a breath she was holding.

Without thinking, I throw my arm around her shoulder, "I have someone in mind though."

I can hear her heart pick up its pace and I can't help but smile like a fool.

We reach the bodega and Courts pays for a bag of Doritos and a bottle of water. I offered to pay but she said that she doesn't mind paying, but thanks me with a genuine smile. As we are walking back towards the school, I can hear my wolf nagging me to ask her out.

"Hey--" we both start at the same time but stop and chuckle.

"You first," Courts says still smiling.

"I...uhh...wait, ladies first," I motion with my hand.

"Well...umm...I was actually wondering if you wanted to hang out sometime. I mean n-not like a date but l-like friends...?" Courtney stampers out.

Damn, she's so cute when she stutters, I thought.

Can you say yes already...you've been staring at her like an idiot for a minute now, my wolf states, agitated.

"Uhh...yeah, yeah. I mean, yes. I-I like dates," I stutter out. I mentally smack myself in the head while Courtney smiles and waves good-bye since her ride was here.

Stupid, my wolf utters.

You try talking to her without mating her, I snap back.

Before my wolf could reply back, my phone goes off and it was a text message from Luke:

Have you seen Mika? She's disappeared!

"Fuck..."

AUTHOR'S NOTE: I know, it's not much, but I'm taking this slow because I'm still deciding on where I want to go with ending, and to make sure that the ending is right, the middle has to be. Am I right or am I write...haha get it? *silence* ...oh puns... ANYWAYS, I'm working on this as fast as I can, but I'm also in school, so balancing Computer Engineering homework and writing is kind of hard (I'm usually writing only a few lines when on the bus or train). So, all I ask is that you bare with me, I'm trying to get this right...for the second time haha. 

Also, that is Courtney above. *watches friends go wide eyed* yes. She's asian (Korean). I imagined her as Aliee (a solo Kpop star) one day and thought she really could play the role of a independent women, with a slight sassy personality. Plus, I wanted to make the cast more international.
