LUKE
She's safe, Aiden's voice rings through my head.
I let out a breath as if I've been holding it for ten minutes. I turn my attention back towards one of my many informers.
When I heard from one of my guards that Mika had somehow "disappeared" before his eyes, my wolf and I were on edge.
We should fire him from his post, my wolf growls, he can't be trusted to keep watch of our mate.
I glare at the person speaking, causing him to stutter even though he hasn't done anything wrong. I motion for him to continue as I turn my attention back to my wolf's comment, I don't trust anyone with our mate. You're the one who wanted someone to watch her.
Yes, I meant us!
I roll my eyes mentally, and who's suppose to make sure our pack stays a pack?
Our beta, my wolf says as if I've asked a stupid question.
Who I haven't picked yet? I snap back.
Just have Aiden as Beta, so we have time for our mate, my wolf is growing agitated from my obvious excuses.
I close off connection with my wolf. I don't like this constant nagging about having Aiden as my beta. Aiden is a great brother, but I don't know if I would leave him in charge of the pack. Plus, Aiden isn't the type of person who'd want to spend time sitting in an office filling out paper work and working as the pack's accountant. No, Aiden would rather watch television or hang out with our younger sisters.
I've thought about just making him the 3rd in command, but I'd have to run the idea past him.
"Alpha?" I hear one of my informants say.
I clear my throat, "What?"
My informant, who's name I can't seem to remember-- he wasn't originally from my pervious pack, so I'm still learning the new pack's names-- is standing at the other end of the mahogany table with his eyes wide.
"Th-the presentation analysis on our defense system is complete," he gulps, "would you like us to-to proceed?"
Did you catch any of what this was about, my wolf asks.
Nope.
"Go ahead, but I want to be informed at the end of the week on how it's working out," I state firmly, "Now we can call this meeting to an end."
Everyone gets up to go as I stay behind.
You're still with Mika, right? I ask Aiden through the mind link.
I haven't left her place yet, Aiden states, but guess where I found her.
I roll my eyes, just tell me dude.
At a fight club. Well, it looks like a strip club on the outside, but there's a whole gym and ring two grounds under!
I raise an eyebrow, why the hell would she be there?
Apparently she goes there in substitute of an actual gym, Aiden states, hold on.
I feel Aiden's presence in my mind disappear for a few minutes before he returns, I think you should look into it though. The guys there are questionable.
Thanks, I say more roughly than I intended as I close off my mind to him.
Guys? What "guys" would possibly even think about looking in the direction of my-- I rant.
Our--my wolf interrupts.
Mate, I finish. I get up to leave the room, but I am stopped by a knock at the wooden door.
"Enter," I state in my alpha tone.
"Your senses need to be on at all times, kid. Next time you use the alpha tone on me, I'll kick your ass," my father finished with a grin across his face.
My father, Senior Alpha Brooks, comes through the door with a grin on his face. Dad was wearing blue jeans, boots, and his favorite baseball cap. I put my forearm out as he does the same, taking hold of each other's forearm. It was an old handshake shared between alphas.
"How's my son doing with alpha business?" Dad asks as he takes a seat in one of the swivel chairs.
I let out a sigh, "Well, I just signed off on a security tactic that I'm not even sure on how it works."
My father raises an eyebrow, but I continue, "And now I'm learning my mate is into underground fighting."
"Your mate! Congrats son!" Dad rejoices, "I can understand the inability to focus when you're mate is walking around unmarked."
I sense someone shuffling down the hall. I take a whiff and realize it's my mother. A few seconds pass and she swings the door open, "YOU FOUND YOUR MATE! WHEN DO I GET TO MEET HER! OHH...HONEY, MY BABY IS ALL GROWN UP N-NOW!"
I completely forgot that the office was right above the kitchen, where my mother spent most of her time besides her bedroom watching her soaps, and she has very keen hearing. Sometimes, common but not expected, when an Alpha mates with another alpha or beta, both benefit from the mating. My mother's father was a beta, and after finding my father, their wolf senses were heightened. If someone has an Alpha mate, the Alpha is even stronger, almost as if they have unlocked a new level, but in some cases, the Luna also benefits aka my mother.
My mother shuffles over to me and places her small hands on my face, "Now tell me. Is she pretty? She's not one of those girls that hide in sweaters now, is she? I mean, if she was, I wouldn't mind, Faith had her phase and grew out of it quick."
I chuckle at my mother's babbling, "Yes, she's beautiful. And no, she dresses well."
My mother's smile grows even wider, "When can I meet her? I can make dinner and we can have a game night too! Oh, that would be lovely! I'll know if she can handle pups if she plays with Heaven and Nevaeh"
I throw my arm around my mother's shoulders, "Let's take a few steps back, 'ma. I haven't even asked her out yet and--"
"Why are you taking so long then? Poor girl probably thinks you're a fool," 'Ma shakes her head and crosses her arms over her chest.
"She probably thinks I'm weird, but I have to take it slow. She's human," I pull out a seat for 'Ma and roll it over to my father. If she's going to feel some type of way about my mate being human, might as well left her mate deal with it.
'Ma opens her mouth to say something but then closes it again. She clears her throat, "It's kind of rare for an Alpha to have a human mate...Are you sure she's human?"
I wasn't expecting that but I nod. I didn't see how Mika could be any supernatural being, she smelled human.
"Well then if she is," Dad places a hand in my mother's, "We welcome her regardless."
I grin and nod. Currently, all I have to do is get Mika to fall in love with me and tell her then that she's in love with an Alpha shifter.
My wolf growls, You make it sound so easy.
