When the guardians of Galaxy left earth Alex hoped Nick wouldn't find out. And for once, he actually didn't. She expected him to find her and demand to know why she had helped out extra terrestrial beings without consent. She expected the entire team to be chewed out over this. And yet they weren't. She was sitting at her desk, twirling a piece of her hair in circles around her finger. She was supposed to be studying about the world war tactics of the American army but she didn't have to, she'd been memorising the battle handbooks of every army.
" Studying again?" Steve asked as he poked his head through the door.
" I'm supposed to be, Im just not feeling it," Alex said with a sigh of boredom.
" What are you studying?" He asked.
" American war tactics from the world wars," Alex answered awkwardly.
Steve's face held a wistful look for a moment before it hardened again.
" You want me to help you study?" He asked helpfully.
" Yeah, that'd actually be great, how did you do it...............making the decision to fly the plane into the ice?" Alex asked curiously.
Steve came in and pulled up a chair, sitting opposite her and meeting her gaze steadily.
" It was hard, incredibly hard. My, my girlfriend at the time, she was talking to me on the intercom, telling me she loved me, how much she cared for me. I didn't really know what to say to her, I knew my duty, serve America, even with my life. I had to protect America and flying the plane in to the sea was my only chance to do so, even if it meant leaving her. It went against all my feelings, my desire to be with her was immense but the desire to protect her form what was coming was greater," Steve said with a sigh of wistfulness.
" I know what you feel, Steve, my own father was an amazing man who wanted to serve America just like you. And yet he failed it by being captured by Hydra. Now he's evil, working with villains we all thought we wouldn't have to deal with again. I find myself thinking that maybe I'm like him, dark, unloveable, geez, I even look like him!" Alex growled.
" You may be similar to him but your love for people makes you loveable. We all love you, you're like the avenger's adopted daughter," Steve said with a reassuring smile.
" I should have adopted....... Would've made it easier to kill you my dear," A voice said in Alex's mind.
She stiffened, terror taking hold of her for a moment before she shook her head to clear the terror, replacing it with cold anger.
" What is it? What's wrong?" Steve said urgently.
Alex stared in to his eyes, urgency in hers.
" He's here, I didn't know how, I don't know where, but he's close and he's coming for us," Alex whispered.
" Wrong, I'm coming for you," Her father's voice said in her mind.
