"Kristine are you trying to kill yourself working like a maniac??"Iris demanded, hands on her hips but looked at her worriedly.
"I'm good. Don't mind me."
It's been three days since Christian left for that business merger in Europe. And still no phone call nor text from him. That brute!! He really thought he'd get even with her smart remark "I can survive even without a phone call from you."
She had busied herself and submerged herself at her work, arriving early at the office and going home late. She had managed to update her new files and designs. She even got an extra income working for her previous classmates who happened to buy new properties and was in need of her service as interior designer.
She had been checking the ads lately and was really thinking of buying that nice house near the beach she'd seen posted a month ago.It was way farther and situated outside the city limits. But she knew it would do Caleb good if he could breathe fresh air and have clean surroundings. Maybe she could just put up a nice business there. That way she can care for Caleb at the same time too. She's thinking of becoming a full time mom. God, her son deserved that as much having no father to looked up to.
She had been saving all the "extra" money that came as perks of having this relationship. And Christian was gallant enough with the "allowance." Atleast one thing came up right with her "craziness."
"Hey Kris!! You look pale. Are you allright???" Michelle asked loudly from the speakers blasting loudly near them.
They were at "The Block", seated at the VIP seats, and will be listening to one of BEATS live again. This time, Jenna was with them. Jenna had went with Sage this time and things were looking good between the two of them. Sage had been trying to talk to her but things had gotten awkward since the last time they've talked during Trey's wedding. Kristine's invitation this time came from Emmet. Well, Kristine was forever welcome whoever it was from the band anyway since almost all of them have grown accustomed to her right since the day she found out that they were old buddies with her one and only cousin Matthew.
Jenna was talking with Trey's wife, Mitzi, like they're long lost friends or something. Meanwhile Alex didn't got a date which came as a surprise since he rarely comes dateless.
"The Block" was in full blast. People crowded at the dance floor. The speakers too loud.
"Hey Kris! You look pale! Are you sick??" Michelle repeated leaning forward.
She shrugged her shoulders. "I'm just overworked that's all." She dismissed her and turned away from her scrutiny. Frankly, Kristine wasn't up for a social chat again even with her friend but she's having a hard time turning down Emmet since he seldom was the one who invited her. It was always Sage or Trey who did that.
"Kristine. I'll bring you home later okay?" Emmet said before standing up and winking at her.
Bring her home. When Emmet showed up at her condominium a while ago, she had been surprised. Well for one she didn't know how he knew the place but a good guess would be was that ofcourse Christian left her in Emmet's good hands during his European trip.
"Well okay but surely if you still have something to do, well Michelle can really dropped me...." Kris managed to answer.
"That's a No. No more loitering." Emmet joked as if she had other rendezvous after this episode. She just rolled her eyes at him.
The sounds stopped and the Band started their song. Michelle and Kristine went to go to the circular bar and asked the bartender to mix two martinis. They've nursed it in silence.
"Come on, lets dance!!" Michelle said standing up and pulling her to the dance floor. Kristine let herself be pulled but the moment she stood up she began to feel dizzy.
The dance floor continued to be swarmed with people and the crowd continue to arrive rendering "The Block" jammed pack.
Kristine continued to sway in time of the alternative rock song that the band was singing, her eyes looking at the bar lights. She can smell the people's bodies mingled with sweat and her head started to ache. Her sight suddenly becomes blurred and the next thing she knew she had fainted at the center of the dance floor. The last thing she could recall was Michelle shouting her name.
