New Day, New Year

You wake up, and turn to the window,

Knowing you've lived this long;

But at the back of your mind, there's

Still things to do before you leave young.

All these things, visiting Australia,

Meeting your favourite author, being

successful, all have been put aside for

Other wishes outside of your feeling.

Your hopes and dreams, whatever they may be,

Have been put aside for a strained marriage,

And children who may not be your side. All that

Is put to the sidelines to fight life's barrage.

Everything you work towards is torn down as you

Reach to the top; picking up pieces, you grumble

In resentment. But hardship brings strength, strength

Builds character, and it allows you to be humble.

Nothing is impossible if it's within your will

and His. Life might knock you down into a ditch,

But you can just get back up, go experience new

Things, live without feeling trouble's hitch.

Of course, there are fun things to do on Earth,

But there are experiences to have in Heaven.

Run with no aching, laugh with no mocking thoughts

Shout with no anger; now that would be living.

There are things that are best experienced first time,

Though. Your first bike ride, your first new song,

Your first wedding, and your first child. Those can't be

Done in Heaven, but there's still new skills to learn along.

Learn a new language, go and play an insturment.

Call up an old friend, have a little chat.

They don't have to be big, important, or even take

Place in Heaven. Try it on Earth, just like that.

Yes, there's work to do; but I know you want to rest.

So when life bashes you down to the point where you're

No more, I'll find and hug your hollow husk, smiling

For I know in life you've accomplished a lot more

Than you realize. Love and fellowship is what you've tried

To give, and for your reward, you'll be given what you vied.

With forecoming predications,

I can see the horizon clear.

Today is going to be a new day,

And it's going to be a new year.
